Endless Hype on Fox About Tomorrow's Congressional Benghazi Hearing
Showtime starts tomorrow, gentle reader. That's when the House Committee on Government Oversight hold its hearing about the attack on the US embassy in Benghazi last September. And to make sure we’re properly pumped up and ready for this partisan puppet show bold attempt to get at the truth, Republican stalwarts were tirelessly making the rounds of Fox News yesterday and today, in the hopes that maybe this time, they can make something stick on the Obama administration. For example, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared On the Record, last night, to inform Greta Van Susteren that “the dam is about to break” on Benghazi.

Megyn Kelly had a jaw-dropping discussion with Mark Fuhrman yesterday in which he decided - without objection from Kelly - that the American widow of presumed Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Katherine Russell, is not just guilty of something (we don’t know what but it had to be something) without benefit of a trial but should lose her parental rights, too. In the meanwhile, Fuhrman let slip that he doesn't think there's much difference between "Muslim" and "radical Muslim."

Fox's Jesus loving, homo hating Todd Starnes never served in the military; but he loves Christian men in uniform who are being persecuted by the evil Military Religious Freedom Foundation which seeks to prevent good Christian military members from "living their faith." Translated into real world terms, the MRFF wants the military to enforce the rules against the proselytizing that has prompted many complaints from those who feel that the in-your-face evangelizing and course content create a hostile work environment. Starnes and his Christian pals aren't happy about this perceived affront; so Starnes has lately launched a series of "brimstone tinged apocalyptic reactions" to "Constitutional principals." Wednesday, Fox & Friends advanced the brimstone during an interview with a representative of the hate group, Family Research Council. And on Thursday's "Hannity," Starnes reinforced the "war on Christians" meme and in so doing showed why Weinstein refers to him as a "fundamentalist barking dog."

On yesterday’s Your World, Jim DeMint of the Heritage Foundation got a friendly platform to defend promote a much-criticized report from his think tank, The Heritage Foundation, saying immigration reform could cost $6.3 trillion. As Media Matters noted, even conservatives have called it a “fatally flawed” study. But host Neil Cavuto made no independent verification of the report. Nor did he investigate any of its claims beyond a “he said/she said” kind of approach.

If you watch Fox News for any length of time, it’s nearly impossible to avoid either a host or an esteemed guest condemn President Obama for not calling either the Boston Marathon bombing or the Fort Hood shooting, “Islamic terrorism.” As if fighting terrorism rests on what you call it. But yesterday, the FBI arrested a right-wing militia-type extremist who allegedly wanted to bomb a local police department. And Fox News is barely mentioning it at all, much less calling it “right wing terrorism.”
Read moreBill O’Reilly Suggests Obama Will Bomb Syria To Avoid Impeachment Over Benghazi
Bill O’Reilly jumped on the Benghazi bandwagon tonight in a big way. In a discussion with two Fox News contributors, Ralph Peters and Dave Hunt, O’Reilly echoed the sentiments of Mike Huckabee and floated the idea that President Obama might be impeached or deserve to be impeached as the result of upcoming House hearings on Benghazi. But then, after backtracking and playing the adult, O’Reilly floated the idea that President Obama might bomb Syria to “wag the dog” and divert attention away from Benghazi.

Be thankful that the ever-vigilant Todd Starnes is guarding our children's morals. Fox's culture warrior has taken time out from detailing the persecution of Christians in America, to fume over an explicit German sex-education book - without bothering to inform us that the publishers are discontinuing it.
Read moreFox News Is Now Part Of Gosnell Trial!
Not only does Fox News report the news; but it's now making news. As part of its role as media conduit for the anti-choice lobby, Fox New is promoting their meme that Dr. Gosnell's clinic is what happens in all abortion clinics. In an effort to sway public opinion against Gosnell in particular and abortion in general, Fox News put together a "special report" about Gosnell. That the intent was to sensationalize and editorialize was underscored by the title of the report, "See No Evil." While the Fox audience was probably pretty darned impressed with the "shocking" nature of the program, Gosnell's attorney was pretty pissed off about it.
Fox Nation Gloats That the Left is ‘Terrified’ of Ted Cruz
So far, Fox hasn’t indulged in the kind of love-fest with Ted Cruz that it has with Rand Paul. But as the neophyte Texas Senator garners headline after headline for being an arrogant jerk forceful and uncompromising, it’s tough for the right-wing brass not to be a little impressed. When an influential pundit on the left aimed some complimentary remarks at Cruz on Sunday, the Fox Nation, with typical Fox Nation hyperbole, posted about it under the gleeful headline, “Senator Ted Cruz Terrifying the Left.”
Read moreDid Roger Ailes Cut Geraldo Rivera’s Mic Over Benghazi?
There’s an interesting brouhaha today over a report in the New York Times that Roger Ailes ordered Geraldo Rivera’s microphone to be cut when he was on Fox & Friends shortly before the election last fall, criticizing the "preposterous allegations" and politicization of the Benghazi attacks and calling out colleague Eric Bolling in particular. Fox has denied the report. But one thing is indisputable: Rivera has changed his attitude toward Benghazi. On Saturday night (5/4/13) Rivera not only treated “Benghazi-Gate” as a serious controversy, he even welcomed Ann Coulter to politicize offer her “insights” into the subject.
