Rubio Can’t Explain Away Romney’s 500,000 Jobs Gaffe

Posted by Ellen · May 06, 2012 11:52 PM · 8 reactions

Appearing as the only guest on Fox News Sunday today, Marco Rubio, the Fox News choice for Vice President, was asked by Chris Wallace about Romney’s ludicrously off-base comment last week that a “normal recovery” should be adding 500,000 jobs a month. Rubio had no explanation other than to praise Romney for having “high expectations.” Not surprisingly, Wallace let Rubio slide.

New York Times’ Scathing Smackdown Of Roger Ailes And Fox News’ Brand Of Journalism

Posted by Ellen · May 06, 2012 5:58 PM · 5 reactions

Bill Keller, the former executive editor of The New York Times – and a frequent Fox News target – wrote a scathing editorial about Roger Ailes and Fox News. Finally, a mainstream journalist not only gets exactly what’s wrong with Fox but is able to express it in perfect prose.

Saturday Night Live Does Fox & Friends

Posted by Ellen · May 06, 2012 4:13 PM · 7 reactions

A mock episode of Fox & Friends was the opener for Saturday Night Live last night and it was pretty darned funny. It started with a send up of the "war on Christmas," moved on to Bin Laden, the White House Correspondents Dinner and more. Plus, there was a guest visit from "Rupert Murdoch."

No Democratic Guest On Fox News Sunday Again

Posted by Ellen · May 06, 2012 3:16 PM · 2 reactions

The only guest on today's Fox News Sunday was Republican Marco Rubio, talking up about the Mitt Romney campaign. We've been documenting how often FNS has been excluding interviews with Democrats. The list is getting surprisingly long, even to veteran Fox watchers like us.

Fr. Jonathan Morris Reminds Catholics Why They Shouldn't Vote For Obama?

Posted by Priscilla · May 06, 2012 1:41 PM · 5 reactions

The so called "Catholic vote" will be an important constituency in the upcoming election. Thus, it doesn't seem to be a coincidence that the only real religious presence on Fox News is a conservative Catholic priest, Fr. Jonathan Morris who has used his Fox pulpit to preach about how the HHS contraceptive mandate is anathema to his church's "religious liberty." Given that GOP position on this mandate dovetails nicely with that of the Catholic Church, it's no coincidence that Fox "News" has a sweet quid-pro-quo arrangement with a church that has been actively preaching against Obama since the HHS mandate which, thanks to Fox News, has been and continues to be in the spotlight. This cozy relationship between the Catholic church and Fox is underscored by Fr. Morris' regular appearances. He gets to promote Catholic dogma that's consistent with that of the GOP. Fox gets to possibly bring Catholic sheaves into the "R" column and the Fox viewship base - a win, win for all. This morning, Morris provided an almost objective assessment of a Gallup poll on Catholic voters - that is until he skillfully interwove core "non-negotiable" Catholic teaching which, wink, wink, cautions Catholics against voting for Obama. Roger Ailes works in mysterious ways.

Harris Faulkner Suggests Campaign Strategy For Mitt Romney

Posted by Ellen · May 05, 2012 6:06 PM · 5 reactions

Harris Faulkner didn’t just moderate a debate about strategies for reaching out to working voters, she made sure to insert pro-Romney and anti-Obama talking points into the discussion. But she didn’t stop there. She went so far as to note one of the “quite successful” tactics of Romney’s father’s presidential campaign (while displaying a pro-Romney campaign poster) and asking her pro-Romney guest, “Is this something that might work for Mitt Romney?”

Hannity Goes On The Five To Smear OWS Protester And Boast About Working At Age 8

Posted by Ellen · May 05, 2012 2:17 PM · 7 reactions

A few days ago, I posted about the unfair, imbalanced treatment Fox News gave to guest Harrison Schultz, when he appeared on Hannity to discuss the Occupy Wall Street movement. After bullying Schultz during their one-on-one, Sean Hannity got his three-person panel to pile on after Schultz had left the set and without anyone to take his side. Yesterday, The Five added to the pile-on when Hannity called in to further attack Schultz discuss his interview. Predictably, the four conservatives (including conservative-come-lately Kimberly Guilfoyle) fell over themselves trying to think of clever ways to make new smears of Schultz and the Occupy protests.

Tavis Smiley Defuses Bill O’Reilly’s Loaded Interview about “Race-Based” Virginia Assault

Posted by Margarita · May 05, 2012 8:37 AM · 3 reactions

Bill O’Reilly seems bent on bludgeoning his viewers with the story of an unprovoked assault by black teens on two white reporters in Norfolk, Virginia. He used the story on Wednesday to hammer the liberal media, and then on Thursday he brandished it at the Justice Department and Attorney General Holder as well. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t get a lot of support from his guest – in fact, he got the discussion pulled right out from under him.

Ruh-Roh! Jehmu Greene Calls Tucker Carlson A “Bow-Tying White Boy”

Posted by Ellen · May 05, 2012 12:22 AM · 8 reactions

On America Live, Megyn Kelly hosted a discussion about Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren’s supposedly questionable claim of Cherokee heritage - which was maybe then used by Harvard as an example of diversity hiring. It was a Fox News twofer: bash a Democratic candidate and affirmative action all in one segment. Fox News Democrat, Jehmu Greene, was obviously upset at conservative Tucker Carlson’s repeated suggestions that Warren only got her job because of some kind of fraudulent attempt at diversity. Greene said that kind of attack will “appeal to folks like you, voters like you, bow-tying white boys.” Uh-oh.

Republicans Are “Us” On Fox News Again

Posted by Brian · May 04, 2012 8:53 PM · 7 reactions

At the end of Special Report’s “All-Star” Panel Wednesday (5/2/12), panelist Charles Krauthammer ended with this sentence. “Jimmy Carter is the Republican(s') Herbert Hoover. The Democrats flogged Hoover for 30 years, we’ve got just about a few years left to go after Carter.”
