The One Thing Romney Wants You To Take Away From His Convention Speech: His Dog Whistle ‘I Believe In America’
In a mostly lapdog interview on Fox News Sunday, punctuated with a few tough questions, Mitt Romney insisted the most important thing in his campaign is trying to solve the “big issues that America faces” such as unemployment. Yet when asked about what the “one thing” voters should “take away” from his convention speech, Romney quickly replied, “That I believe in America and the American people.” Host Chris Wallace didn’t think that worth commenting on, nor the fact that Romney later gave a dizzying “explanation” as to why he invests in Swiss bank accounts and other offshore investments and then, while he continues to refuse to release more than two years of tax returns, followed that up with the statement, “I’m not gonna try and hide who I am.”

It was bad enough that Fox News outed the identity of a Navy SEAL Team 6 member who has written a memoir about his participation in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden – at the same time that the network was concern trolling about national security information possibly divulged by the publication of the SEAL’s pseudonymous book. But the next day, under cover of that same “concern,” Fox News military analyst – and newly-minted OPSEC swift boater – Bill Cowan suggested that any fallout from the revelation of the author’s true identity would be the Obama administration’s fault. Host Martha MacCallum helped perpetuate the falsehood by failing to correct or challenge it in any way.

Fox News' "Medical A-Team" psychiatrist, Dr. Keith Ablow, has come up with another psychoanalysis that just so happens to perfectly dovetail with Republican talking points. This time Dr. Ablow gets "inside the mind of Todd Akin" and concluded that he has committed political rape against the Republican Party.

Anti-Obama Movie #1 at Box Office, trumpeted the headline to a post on Fox Nation today. It was celebrating extremely high advance sales for 2016: Obama’s America, during its first weekend of general distribution. But if you read the fine print in the article in deadline.com from which Fox Nation’s post is taken, you’ll find they’ve stretched the truth a lot.
Read moreFr. Jonathan Morris Uses Homeless Man To Encourage Church Membership?!
The main mission of Fox News' special mission from God (and his other son Roger Ailes) is to highlight the plight of American Christians who are being persecuted by the evil forces of secularism and atheism. And in addition to providing a pulpit for the church of perpetual outrage, it appears that part of Fox's divine mission is to cheerlead for religion and in so doing present, as Fox fact, something that flies in the face of reality; i.e. religion is not in decline. Last Sunday, Fox's primo member of the God squad, Fr. Jonathan Morris, waved his metaphorical cheerleading pompoms to inform us that things are looking up. He also told a tale about a weird "golf game" that he had with a homeless guy - a tale that does needs retelling as it tells you all you need to know about Morris' priorities which seem to have more to do with I-phone photos than works of mercy.
Read moreMonica Crowley’s Latest Obama Conspiracy Theory: He Wants Iran To Have A Nuclear Weapon
I guess it wouldn’t be an hour of Monica Crowley if we didn’t get another one of her off-the-wall, anti-Obama conspiracy theories. Last night, as she was guest hosting for The O’Reilly Factor, Crowley didn’t just criticize President Obama’s policy toward Iran, she dug up a former Romney spokesman, hid his affiliation by presenting him as a former U.N. spokesman, and after bitching about Obama having “utterly failed” in Iran, she concluded that Obama’s “whole strategy” has been “to advance our enemies, to support them in ways that we can’t even imagine.” Classy. As usual.

In case you had any lingering doubt that Fox News “Democrat” Pat Caddell is anything but a fraud designed to provide Fox with another anti-Democratic voice under cover of “balance,” then his proud association with Citizens United’s new anti-Obama movie ought to completely eradicate it. The movie will premiere at the Republican convention next week. And yes, it was produced by that Citizens United. Sean Hannity was so eager to promote it that he announced, “This is the most powerful documentary I’ve ever seen in my life. There’s no way that anybody watches this film could vote for Barack Obama. It’s impossible!”
Read moreThanks To Fox News, Al Qaeda Has Targeted Navy SEAL Author
Earlier today, we posted about Fox News outing the name and location of the Navy SEAL involved in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden – and who had written a book about his experiences under a pseudonym. Now we learn that websites affiliated with Al Qaeda have posted the man’s name and photo with calls for revenge. (h/t Think Progress)
Read moreHow Fox News Mainstreams Right-Wing Extremism – Dinesh D’Souza Edition
Author Dinesh D’Souza has made a number of outrageous, irresponsible and easily disproven accusations about President Obama that essentially center around the “Obama views are more African than American” dog whistle, although couched in more digestible terms. Instead of exposing and disposing of this detestable sort of rhetoric, Fox News has deliberately hyped it – under cover of merely presenting it for discussion. Sadly, when given an opportunity to challenge that tactic and framing, two Democrats failed to do so.
Read moreKarl Rove Assures Us that Romney Will Grow on Us
You can almost pity Republican pundits like Karl Rove. They keep trying to sell Romney to undecided voters based on middle-of-the-road issues like the economy, and then people like Todd Akin open their mouths. So last night Rove was back on On The Record, assuring us that Romney has our middle-of-the-road issues at heart and that we’ll really like him when we get to know him.
