Fox News Ignores Rick Santorum's Bigoted Preacher Pal?
Who could forget Fox's coverage of the 2008 presidential race - those halcyon days when Fox "News" advanced the meme that Barack Obama, as articulated by Sarah Palin, "palled around with terrorists" and was a member of a radical church headed by a scary black man? Fox theologian, Sean Hannity, did a number of segments about how Obama's friend and spiritual mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, espoused "black liberation theology" which, according to Hannity, seeks to destroy white America as we know it. Of course, Wright was a well respected pastor in the United Church of Christ - a predominately white - but (and this is important) - liberal church. Fox "News" has continued to show skepticism towards Obama in matters of faith. His not having chosen a church was a source of some commentary, including a homily by Fox priest, Fr. Jonathan Morris. So given Fox's animosity towards our president, especially in matters of faith, can you imagine the outcry if he attended a service given by a pastor who preached that all Christians need to leave the country. But wait, Rick Santorum just appeared at a service given by Dennis Terry of the Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, a man whose bigotry, regarding those who do not worship Jesus, is front and center. Got hypocrisy?

Although Sean Hannity once spent three nights discussing an unknown bookstore owner who said that whites should be exterminated, and he claims to “care deeply” about race, no time of the Hannity show last night was spent discussing the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida. Instead, the top story was an attack on Michelle Obama for appearing on David Letterman. Why? Because Letterman has made misogynistic comments about Sarah Palin. Meanwhile, Hannity continues to avoid explaining why he pals around with Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a guy who “thank(s) God for slavery” and thinks most women are “little whores.”

At a recent Republican fundraiser in Florida, Fox News contributor Dick Morris earned an additional $6,000 for the local Republicans by auctioning off a tour of Fox News, with himself as tour guide. Unfortunately for whoever made the winning bid, the tour will not happen, Morris has been reprimanded by Fox and has reportedly "profusely apologized" for his lapse in judgment.
Read moreOn Fox & Friends: Kirk Cameron Defends His Homophobic Comment & Promotes His Movie
Kirk Cameron, a former child star, is now all grown-up. When he's not doing Christian themed movies, he works for a ministry whose promotion of creationism included distributing copies, on college campuses, of a creationist version of Darwin's "Origin of Species." In addition to being a scientist, Kirk's historical acumen is now being showcased in his recent movie, "Monumental," which is about the awesomeness of the Founding Fathers (no mention of native American genocide) and how this country is on the road to perdition due to the policies of the evil Obama administration. Recently, he emerged from obscurity when he caused some controversy over a comment that he made, on Piers Morgan's show, about how homosexuality is "unnatural...detrimental and destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." While *gay groups and many in the Hollywood community objected, he was defended by the homophobic hate groups, "The American Family Association" and "Americans for Truth About Homosexuality." Cameron claims that his free speech is being infringed upon. So it's not surprising that Fox & Friends, a show that specializes in persecuted Christians, offered him an opportunity to defend himself as well as promote his movie.

Bill O’Reilly was at his most condescending and paternalistic last night as he ignored the encroachments Republicans are trying (and often succeeding) to make on women’s reproductive rights. He blithely insisted to his female guest, “Nobody is messing around with women’s reproductive rights.”

Does anyone doubt that if Trayvon Martin had been white and his shooter black, that Fox News would be covering the tragedy 24/7? If so, you might want to take a look at these comments - and their "likes" - found on FoxNews.com. Warning: Not for the faint of heart. (H/T Hula and Lawrence G.)
Read moreFox News Uses Trayvon Martin Death to Go After Gun Control Advocates
After a slow start in covering the shooting death of black teenager Trayvon Martin at the hands of self-appointed Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman, Fox News is playing catch-up with more comprehensive coverage today. But on America Live, instead of concentrating on the tragedy itself, Martha McCallum and Trace Gallagher focused on National Rifle Association complaints that the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence were using the shooting to call for tighter controls on firearms, and used selectively edited clips of the 911 tapes to further the Fox spin.
Read morePeter Johnson Jr. Says Birth Control Mandate Is One Of The Worst Offenses In US History!
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, head of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops which is waging a crusade against the Obama HHS mandate requiring large religious institutions to cover birth control, should say a daily Te Deum in thanks for Fox News' stalwart support of the bishop's position regarding the birth control mandate. It's not every Catholic potentate that has his own TV network; but Cardinal Dolan seems to have Fox "News" squarely in the deepest pocket of his chasuble. Today marked the tenth installment of the bishop's talking points brought to you by Catholic "Knight of Malta," NY Catholic Archdiocese paid litigator, and Fox host Peter Johnson Jr. who, once again, pushed the pro-Catholic and anti-Obama agitprop with his wingman, professional Fox Catholic and, like Johnson, uterus free Steve Doocy. Johnson's performance, on behalf of his liege lord Cardinal Dolan, surpassed all others in that he claimed that the HHS mandate was just about the most heinous thing to have happened in American history. Oh, and Johnson lied, again, about how the mandate covers abortion pills. But I'm sure Cardinal Dolan would say it's not a lie if you believe it.

If you only watch Fox News, you are probably unaware of the awful tragedy that befell when an unarmed, African American teenager named Trayvon Martin was shot to death by a man in Florida who thought Martin was acting suspiciously as he walked through the neighborhood. The shooter was armed with a 9mm handgun. Martin, on his way home from a convenience store, held a can of iced tea and a bag of Skittles. Martin had no criminal record but the shooter, 28 year-old George Zimmerman, did. Updated
Read moreHeather Nauert Pimps Catholic Bishops Talking Points Re Birth Control Mandate
Fox's Heather Nauert was once told, by the late Fox host Tony Snow, that "God made you beautiful" so it was up to her to "make yourself smart." She took his advice and got herself a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University and now she's part of Roger Ailes stable of blonde, conservative, devout Catholic hosts. Fresh from her Roman holiday, during which she witnessed Cardinal Dolan's red hatting, she was on last week's Fox & Friends where she spread the anti-HHS birth control gospel of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops of which Dolan is the head. It isn't surprising given that Fox & Friends seems to be Dolan's personal vehicle, via NY Catholic Archdiocese employee, Knight of Malta, and Fox host, Peter Johnson Jr., for disseminating the meme that the HHS mandate is all about "religious freedom." Also not surprising is that their coverage omits any counterpoint which might include mention that the head of the Catholic Hospital Association, a nun, approves of the Obama policy and that a number of Catholic universities now cover birth control in their health policies. Last week, Nauert covered all the requisite talking points which were validated by Gretchen Carlson - blonde, GOP agitprop stereo at its finest!
