Although Megyn Kelly considers herself to be "independent," when it comes to the Little Sisters of the Poor, she is anything but! She has unabashedly supported them in their lawsuit against the ACA's birth control mandate, even to the point of accusing Pres. Obama of hating nuns. A federal court recently ruled against the nuns and Kelly is having none of it!
In its ongoing attempt to pander to conservative Catholics, Fox News has been, from the onset of the nuns' lawsuit, squarely in their corner. Tucker Carlson actually opined that the nuns are on Obama's "enemies list." Megyn Kelly, whose delusions include the belief that she doesn't let us know what she thinks, has been very vocal in her support for the nuns who, according to Kelly, are on "side of the angels."
As in her past propaganda pieces, she started off Monday's segment with tear jerking videoabout how the nuns care for the poor and sick - groups not high on the GOP priority list! The video was done by the right wing legal group, The Beckett Fund, which represents the nuns. The featured nun in the video spoke of the love of Christ which isn't exactly part of Fox's programming but whatever...
Kelly, her voice reflecting just how pissed off she is, reported "big news in the legal battle in the government and the nuns you just saw." Making sure to tug on your heartstrings, she explained that the nuns, "who have devoted their lives to helping those in hospice care" had merely asked to be exempted from the evil slut pill mandate of the ACA (which, despite *Fox News' opposition to it, still stands). Kelly cited the nuns' claim that the mandate violates their faith; but that a Circuit court told the nuns "too bad."
Kelly was aghast that the nuns "lost" and will have to pay fines or "sign the form that allows those working with them to get free contraception." Their lawyer, Mark Rienzi, predicted that the nuns will win the case if it goes to the Supreme Court. He proclaimed that DC bureaucrats "don't get to tell nuns what their faith requires."
Kelly then claimed that the exemption would allow employees to access birth control "directly from the insurers, you're out of it what's your beef." While Kelly had her best am-I-pissed-off look on, Rienzi presented his arguments against the decision. Kelly whined "what's going to happen to them if the Supreme Court doesn't take their case." Rienzi brayed about the fines that will be imposed by the evil government on these sweet, innocent nuns. Kelly predicted that if SOTUS doesn't take the case, it "will be a major PR disaster for the administration."
If Fox viewers are misinformed, it's because of biased crap like this. While Kelly framed the message that the nuns' religious freedom is being violated by signing a form, she didn't say that the "form" is the EXEMPTION which, for the court, is not a "substantial burden" for the nuns to sign. But what was worse was Kelly's lie hat if the nuns signed the form, the workers would get the nasty slut pills. Fact Check: The nuns' insurance is issued by the Christian Brothers and, as such, is considered a "church plan" which is not required to provide birth control coverage. The court decision states that "it is clear Christian Brothers need not, and will not, provide contraceptive coverage if the Little Sisters opt out of the Mandate." The nuns are "seeking legal relief from a non-existent problem."
Yeah, Megyn Kelly is so "independent." Ya think?!
