Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. challenged the racist status quo in order to bring about a radical transformation of society. But you wouldn't know it if you've seen his niece, Alveda King, who makes an annual MLK Day appearance on Fox & Friends in order to misrepresent King's legacy and, for added points, smear the President Obama!
It isn't surprising that Alveda King is a Fox fave given that she is a right wing ideologue whose appearances on Fox serve to validate right wing/Fox talking points. An abortion opponent, she is employed by the radical, anti-choice Priests for Life. Ms. King was a featured speaker at Glenn Beck's teabagging Washington rally, held on an anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington. In addition to promoting radical right causes, Fox loves her because, as a relative of MLK (she is estranged from MLK's immediate family) she is able to put an acceptable African-American perspective on MLK' s legacy which, according to Ms. King, was all about just getting along.
On Monday's Fox & Friends, Elisabeth began her homage to MLK by describing him as an "iconic Civil Rights leader know for his passionate speech in Washington." Obviously he was known for far more than that; but for Fox & Friends this is the safest version of the King legacy. A clip from that speech was shown. She tossed to Alveda who spoke about the principals which, according to Alveda, were important to her uncle.
Ms. King said that MLK felt the safety of "the home" was a priority. She also noted that her uncle believed that education is important. Hasselbeck referenced MLK's desire to "build a beloved community" which, according the The King Center, would be "attained by a critical mass of people committed to and trained in the philosophy and methods of nonviolence." but Hasselbeck ignored that. She then cited a Fox poll which showed that 59% of those polled felt that Pres. Obama failed to improve race relations. In asking "where do we go from here," Hasselbeck tossed the propaganda ball Alveda who ran with it.
Ms. King said that she was "saddened" because she was part of the 59%. She said that the President should be "in touch with all the people not divided by race or economic status" (In other words, pay more attention to those deprived white folks!) She said that "we need comfort, safety" and suggested that Obama wasn't doing enough to fight terrorism which, for MLK, consisted of actions by home grown white Americans but hey, details, details. In keeping with the Fox/right wing whine that Obama isn't using the word Muslim to describe terrorism, she exhorted the Obama to call the "terrorist incidents what they really are" because when he doesn't, that "doesn't make us feel safe."
Only on Fox & Friends is MLK's dream a right wing nightmare!
Sooner this “rigger witch” dies, the better off the King legacy will be.
Sorry, but I find this (fill in whatever incredibly disgusting term for the female of the species you prefer) too repulsive, even by FoxNoise standards. She’s a traitor to her uncle’s legacy and she’s especially nauseating because she actually believes she has any right to speak on his behalf.
