Given that Bill O'Reilly is America's media pope, it's not surprising that he would support Lila Rose whom "Jezebel" accurately describes as a "Joan of Arc" with a "misguided Savior complex." Lila, like O'Reilly, is a devout Catholic who, as part of her jihad (whoops, crusade) against abortion, does sting videos (she apprenticed under James O'Keefe) in order to show abortion providers engaged in criminal activities. Her efforts at entrapping clinic staff have, however, produced no investigations, let alone prosecutions, on the part of legal authorities. But because she's anti-abortion and Fox News is the mouthpiece for the movement that seeks to take women back to the dark ages, she is always warmly welcomed on Fox. And now that her homies are using the Gosnell case to conflate his clinic with safe, legal abortion, it wasn't a surprise to see her and her bogus video warmly welcomed by Bill O'Reilly who uses his Fox pulpit to fight for the rights of the unborn.
O'Reilly reported that the Gosnell case is going to the jury and then proclaimed that "a new undercover report from the pro-life organization Live Action shows that Gosnell is not the only abortion doctor apparently willing to let babies die." After informing his audience that one of Lila's sting operators visited a Washington DC doctor (cue the death threats) surgeon, he played video of the exchange in which a pregnant actress expressed concerns about what would happen if the baby was born alive during an abortion. The doctor explained that he would be obligated to help the baby to survive but "it probably wouldn't." He added that "we would not help it." The video shows nothing illegal being done by the doctor. What O'Reilly didn't show as the part of the extended video in which a nurse states that a born alive child would be taken to the hospital.
O'Reilly played part of another Live Action video in which a woman, who appears to be a counselor, appears to say that if the baby is born alive it will be placed into a toxic solution to kill it. The longer version of the video shows that the woman who is speaking is not a counselor and that the actual counselor said that if the fetus is born alive, the doctor would attempt to resuscitate it or sent it to a hospital, the quote being “Once that pregnancy comes out alive, he will do everything he can to save it.” O'Reilly didn't mention that; but he told viewers that he had to edit for time (He showed the part intended to inflame anti-choice sentiment) and advised viewers that they could see the whole video at Live Action (Is it me or does that name conjure up images of sleazy strip clubs?)
Sweet lil Lila explained that her investigation is to show "the inhuman and abusive practices, the brutality of abortion in America." She claimed that the "abortion industry" is "brutalizing children old enough to survive outside the womb, in the womb and even with those blurred lines, killing children, in these clinics, that survive failed abortions. She dramatically described these "children" as "struggling for their lives."
Always the seer, Bill predicted that the pro-choice movement won't believe what's in the videos and if it's proven, they'll say that the providers are "the extreme." (Which, of course, they are.) Lila asserted that NARAL and Planned Parenthood argue against all abortion restrictions which include "children are able to survive outside the womb" and claimed that they want taxpayer funded abortion. The anti-choice extremist Lila accused them of being "extreme" and, natch, accused them of being led by President Obama.. O'Reilly accused the "pro-choice" lobby of "wanting abortion." (Wrong, Bill, they want women to have the CHOICE to abort.) As he did when vilifying Dr. Tiller, O'Reilly lied when he claimed that the pro-choice lobby doesn't, even after birth, see the child as a baby.
Rose described her highly edited and deceptive films as "heartbreaking" and "shocking" and continued to whine about the "brutality" of abortion. Bill said that "everybody knows" that "to terminate a fetus in the womb is a destructive act." (Like murdering abortion doctors?) She whined about how we sanitized abortion and that we've "forgotten that the womb is supposed to be a place of safety, compassion, and love." She claimed that her films show "how easily" abortion "leads to infanticide." On cue, Bill suggested that the Washington DC doctor commits infanticide (Again showed the doctor's photo with his name) as did Gosnell and - wait for it - Dr. Tiller. O'Reilly informed the viewers that Lila's group depends on donations and provided the website name.
Once again, O'Reilly used his show to promote the newest causus belli for the anti-choice movement rather than providing a format in which the "abortion industry" could defend itself from these scurrilous charges. But Bill fights for the rights of the unborn - women, not so much!
The truth is that Rose is trying to use the right wing media publicity about Gosnell to get attention for her own problems. And the other truth is that the only media outlet that gives her much coverage is Fox News. As Holder correctly stated, Rose is a discredited person who is known for misleading bits of edited video designed to promote her political ideas.
*Neither word was deliberately intended to be used for their connections to pregnancy and abortion but both seem particularly appropriate in this context.
