Among its duties as media mouthpiece for conservative positions of the Catholic Church (war, capital punishment, immigration, social justice - not so much), Fox News is tasked with defending the pope against the onslaught of evil secularism such as the nasty librul media which Fox also has a sacred mission to bash at every opportunity. Because the reality based media has, accurately, reported on the Pope's conservative positions on birth control, gay marriage, and abortion - while also pointing out his support for that commie social justice thang - the non reality based Fox News is accusing the media of "attacking the pope". And who better to advance that meme than the anti-Semitic, homophobic, and pedophile priest defender, Bill Donohue who chatted with fellow (divorced and twice married neither time in the Catholic Church) Catholic Megyn Kelly who, regarding the new pope, just can't handle the truth. And as in any segment featuring the blustering Bill (who said the "nuns on the bus" are a scam"), there's a priceless nugget of insanity. In this case, Bill tells us that media bias against the pope is because the left loves kinky sex, Megan giggled. True Story.
Yesterday, Megyn Kelly began the homily: "The celebration truly had not died down in St. Peter's Square last night when some media outlets were already attacking the new pope viciously." The chyron reinforced the message: "Media Response to New Pope, Some Outlets Were Quick to Attack." As examples she showed the Huffington Post Headline which accurately reported Francis' quote about gay marriage and accusations that he was involved with the Argentinean Junta. After reading the headlines in clipped tones, she introduced her guest, Bill Donohue, the head of the Catholic League, who blames the clergy sexual abuse scandal on gay priests and teenage seducers. She said that she was shocked to see the headlines after she had just finished reporting on the announcement of the new pope. She wanted to know if the media had an "obligation" to respect the Catholics.
Donohue, predictably, hit the NY Times (favorite Fox News target) for reporting that Francis has the same positions as Benedict on gay marriage and abortion but "Benedict doesn't have any positions, these are the teachings of the Catholic Church." He brayed that if people don't like positions, they can find another religion cuz "newflash, we're not going to change." (And newsflash that's why ex-Catholics are the second largest American religious group!).After he ranted about how life begins at conception, Kelly snarked that it wasn't a shock that the pope has these positions. Donohue blamed "malcontents on the left" and a "certain sector" of "bitter" ex-nuns and priests living in the past. Kelly smiled sarcastically when she said that it was only seven minute until CNN put somebody put on somebody demanding female priests. She played an accurate report, from CBS, about how, despite Francis' opposition, Argentina became the first Latin-American country to approve same sex marriage. Ewww- sssshhhhh.
Bill then got really turned on. He said this publicity is because "the left love sex." When Kelly laughed that it's just not the left, Donohue smiled as he asserted that *"they're into kinky sex, they love to brag about it. " (Uh, GOP Catholic Sen. David Vitter did it in diapers with a prostitute! GOP Catholic Newt Ginrich was a noted philanderer - oh right, he did it for his country, GOP Larry Craig was into men's room toe tapping, GOP Mark Sanford wasn't hiking...) After he cited Francis' positions on social issues ("the sex"), Kelly said "none of the guys" favor theses issues. Donohue yelled "it's the teachings of the Church." Kelly was appalled that rather than talking about Francis' teachings on the poor, they're highlighting the other things. Bill finished by saying that while Catholics, like him, don't like the death penalty, "they don't like the death of a child in the womb intentionally done." Kelly gushed her appreciation to Donohue.
If this were actually real journalism, perhaps mention could have been made of the link between Francis' commendable positions on poverty with the reality that denying women access to abortion and birth control contributes to poverty. Mention could have been made that Catholic "teachings" on birth control are the cause of decline in membership and church attendance. But no, this alleged "news" piece was just another right wing propaganda message about the evil, librul media which, OMG, actually presents both sides of the news, unlike the "fair & balanced" Fox News.
*In 2004, Donohue said that "Hollywood Jews" are into anal sex.
She’s not your typical feminist, either: Prof. Ranke-Heinemann was the first woman to qualify (in 1969) as a lecturer on Catholic theology at the U. of Essen (Germany), becoming a professor of Catholic theology in 1970. She lost the chair in New Testament and Ancient Church History for interpreting Mary’s Virgin Birth theologically and not biologically. In 1987, she was appointed to the Chair for the History of Religion at the same University. In 1988, she published the book (“Eunuchen fur das Hillelreich – Katholische Kirche und Sexualitat”). (above is gleaned from the book’s page presenting the authoress).
Don’t know what became of her afterwards but that’s one fantastic book. It’s become my “bible” on the Church’s war against women, a “war” that pretty much ignores everything that Jesus said and did.
Well, maybe.
But I’m not sure that lefties love kinky sex anymore than Sen. David Vitter, Mega-pastor Jack Schaap, Sen. Larry Craig, Mark Foley and the pedophiles his church has been hiding for decades.
Donohue better realize that it’s not just the left taking a hard look at the new pope.
Donohue wants to be Pope so he can have all the power over the ordinary people. (Of course, if Donohue were to ever become Pope, the exodus of Catholics from the Church would be so overwhelming, he’d end up being the Pope of one person—himself.)
Meanwhile, she’s featured prominently in this toe-tapping tune: http://notnowsilly.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-girls-on-fox-news.html
