In what was arguably one of the most bizarre Bill O'Reilly rants, evah, he recently justified his anger, over the bogus "War on Christmas," to official Fox priest Fr. Jonathan Morris who tried to talk Bill down while at the same time validating some of Bill's concerns about the demise of "tradition" such as the need to pray for re-criminalized abortion. (As if, padre). Self appointed morality czar O'Reilly scolded the Catholic Church for not publicly reacting to Caroline Kennedy's pro-choice speech at the Democratic Convention and "joked" that she should be "exorcised." (Not a traditional witch burning?) He then launched into a rant that was neck wrenching in its contortion. After claiming that he had no problem with gay marriage, he scolded the Catholic Church for not fighting hard against gay marriage. Really? On what planet is he living? The Catholic Church fired all its guns (and $) fighting gay marriage but that was obviously not enough for Bill who "got nothing against gay marriage." WTF?
Considering that Bill O'Reilly allegedly engaged in some unwanted dirty talk with his former producer and that he wanted the local police to investigate his wife's boyfriend, Bill is no paragon of heterosexual marriage; yet he has expressed concern about gay marriage. He has said that gay marriage will lead to interspecies marriage. But in one of his columns in 2009 he said that "Your humble correspondent doesn't really care much about gay marriage because I believe it is no danger to the republic and the deity can sort all this stuff out after we're dead. I take a libertarian position on issues like gay marriage because I want all Americans to be able to pursue happiness equally." But then he goes on to say that those who support gay marriage are dissing those who support traditional marriage which is the "optimum" in raising a family. (Wrong) He also accuses those who support gay marriage of bigotry and that because of gay marriage, "we are no longer the United States." Are we confused yet?
Flash forward to 2012 and O'Reilly's split personality is evident. He is still bloviating about the demise of traditions while saying that he's libertarian on gay marriage. Here's O'Reilly's contradictory commentary from the segment with Fr. Morris:
"If you guys don't start stepping up soon and more forcefully, you're going to lose your Christian traditions in this country. Let me give you one more example. Gay marriage. I got nothing against gay marriage. Not my issue. I want homosexual Americans to be happy and to pursue happiness. So I'm not going to be an anti-gay marriage warrior. But if you believe, and the other Christian religions, and there's a lot of em. That gay marriage is wrong and harmful, then you gotta get up there and make just as strong an argument, and you haven't. And that's why public opinion is turning against - in favor of gay marriage. You're losing these wars, father."
Catholic Church has spent over $2 million dollars to fight marriage equality this election cycle. Numerous priests and bishops preached that same sex marriage is a sin and that voting for legislation to approve same sex marriage is a ticket to hell. But O'Reilly doesn't think that this is enough. Strange.
But what's stranger is that on one hand he's not going to be an anti-gay marriage warrior; but on the other hand, he wants the churches to fight gay marriage. If you want the gays to be happy, why would you urge the church to fight gay marriage? Sounds like he's outsourcing his homophobia. Go figure...
