George Soros to Fareed Zakaria: Fox News Uses Orwellian Newspeak and Nazi Propaganda Techniques

Reported by Alex - February 20, 2011 -

Today on CNN’s GPS, billionaire financier George Soros – Fox News Channel’s number one boogeyman for his support of liberal causes - told host Fareed Zakaria that Fox News “has imported the techniques of George Orwell - Newspeak” to deceive the public, and compared FNC content with the propaganda that led to the collapse of Germany’s Weimar Republic and the rise of the Nazi regime. He also said that the people of the Tea Party are “very decent”, “hard working” and are being misled and deceived by “forces” using them for their own selfish ends. Updated 2/21 with new video and link to podcast.

Soros, commenting on a clip of Glenn Beck calling Soros the “puppetmaster” of the “shadow government” which is trying to bring down America, explained that Rupert Murdoch is using his media empire to try to bring America “in the wrong direction” and obscuring his efforts by having Beck do his dirty work. He went on to say,

Fox News makes a habit…it has imported the methods of George Orwell – Newspeak – where you can tell the people falsehoods and deceive them…You wouldn’t believe that in an open society, a democracy, these methods can succeed. But actually they did succeed, they succeeded in Germany where the Weimar Republic collapsed and you had the Nazi regime following. So this is a very, very dangerous way of deceiving people, and I would like people to be aware that they are being deceived…Because I saw it as a child, I immediately react that way; but people in America are innocent, they haven’t had that experience; they’re having the experience now, and I hope they wake up and realize they are being deceived.

Asked to comment on the Tea Party movement, Soros was gracious to the rank and file, but in a way that will no doubt make them see red, and not just under the bed. Soros called the people of the Tea Party “very decent people, hard working… hit by a force that comes from somewhere that they can’t fully understand, and they are being misled…by people who are using it for their selfish purposes, namely to remove regulations and reduce taxation…[T]hey are being used and deceived.” Oh dear, the Tea Partiers won’t like that at all. I can hear it already: “They talk down to us. Especially here in the heartland. Oh, man. They think that, if we were just smart enough, we’d be able to understand … And I so want to tell ’em, and I do tell ’em, Oh, we’re plenty smart, oh yeah—we know what’s goin’ on.” Oh, wait… Sarah Palin already said that? That’s okay. We can let Mama Grizzly speak for the 8-percenters, many of whom will no doubt echo this refrain as soon as Jesse “Stalker” Watters takes off his ninja costume and night vision goggles long enough to put an ugly picture of Soros, along with an out-of-context quote, up at the cesspool he calls Fox Nation.
