Sarah Palin Wants You To Think She’s Like Ronald Reagan

Reported by Ellen - November 1, 2010 -

During Sarah Palin’s appearance on Fox News Sunday yesterday (10/31/10), Host Chris Wallace cited Karl Rove's less-than-complimentary comments about her potential presidential candidacy. Wallace was referring to a recent interview in which Rove suggested that Palin’s upcoming TLC reality television show indicated that she lacked the gravitas to become president. Palin responded by rhetorically asking, "Wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor?" She also claimed that her show is about “Alaska’s resources... that we can contribute to the rest of the U.S. to economically and physically secure our union.” Yet the promos show nothing of the sort.

Yes, Reagan was an actor. But that was BEFORE he became governor of California for two full terms. Had he quit in the middle of his first term - as Palin did - and then become an actor, something tells me his career would not have had quite the same trajectory.

Wallace who, as I previously mentioned, seemed underwhelmed by Palin during the interview, nonetheless didn’t think to bring up the obvious differences.

Palin told Wallace her TLC show documents “Alaska’s resources, what it is that we can contribute to the rest of the U.S. to economically and physically secure our union. And my family comes along on the ride because I am family! Family is us.”

Rove was “wrong right there, calling it a reality show,” she said. “I’m not in a reality show.”

Well, it sure looks like a reality show. Wallace aired a clip that showed Palin climbing a rock – nothing to do with resources or economics. In the promo Rove referenced (video below), Palin can be seen kayaking, dog sledding, etc., and saying, “This is flipping fun… I’d rather be doing this than in some stuffy old political office.” Large titles on the screen read, "FAMILY" and "ADVENTURE." There was nothing to indicate Alaska’s resources or national security would have any part in it.

Wallace added that he was going to be like Bill O’Reilly and offer his opinion. “I think you’re having too much fun. I think you’re making too much money, you’re still a big player in national politics. You don’t have a hundred people like me chasing you around, saying ‘What does she read in the morning?’ I don’t think you’re gonna run.”

Palin stuck out her lower lip before making the unbelievable – to me, anyway – statement that the country is worth making those sacrifices. “If the country needed me, and I’m not saying that the country does… I would be willing to make the sacrifices, if need be, for America.”

Although I’m tempted to say, “Thanks, but no thanks,” Politico is now reporting that GOP leaders see a Palin candidacy as a “disaster in waiting.” So I say, “You go, girl!” I won't even mind if you compare yourself to JFK next.
