FOX News Promotes McCain Myths
Reported by Deborah - August 21, 2008 -
In the last few days since John McCain gave his saintly performance at the Saddleback Forum some interesting revelations have emerged about John McCain's pattern of embellishing the truth to enhance his image. Today I came across two examples that FOX News has happily promoted for their candidate. A favorite story about Cindy McCain and Mother Theresa is one example and the other involves one of McCain's responses at Saddleback.
One of the favorite McCain myths claims that Cindy McCain and Mother Theresa had a relationship in Bangladesh and Mother Theresa personally asked her to take two children back to the states to receive medical help.
Jon Voight spun the tale for O'Reilly Factor viewers, 8/12, noting that Cindy McCain and Angelina Jolie are " cut from the same cloth". However, The Christian Science Monitor reports that Cindy McCain never met Mother Theresa who was in Mexico at the time.
During the Saddleback Forum, John McCain named John Lewis (D-Ga), noted civil rights leader, as one of the three "wise" people he would consult as president. The Fox website had the clip of the response prominently displayed in their video collection. However, Mother Jones reportsthat there has been no established relationship between McCain and Lewis . John Lewis offered this statement.
"Sen. McCain and I are colleagues in the US Congress, not confidantes. He does not consult me. And I do not consult him."
Below is a video of Jon Voight promoting the Mother Theresa myth in the last minute or so of the clip.
