Grover Norquist second radical right guest on FOX and Friends ticking off the talking points
Reported by Chrish - July 16, 2008 -
If watching Bill Kristol didn't give viewers enough radical right talking points this morning 7/16/08 they got a chance to top themselves off with a segment from anti-tax fanatic Grover Norquist (who famously said . "My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." The people of New Orleans got the drowning while he got his wish on FEMA.) Today he was noting "Cost of Government Day," a concoction of his own making.
With video.
He detailed the numbers and percentages of American earnings that go to support the running of our government, including deficit spending and regulation expenses. Some of it's stupide, some of it's good, but none of it's free, he said. (Gotta wonder who gets to decide what's good and what's stupid.)
Steve Doocy, who was conducting the interview, said we all pay too many taxes and we all feel that way. Norquist did us the favor of tabulating the dates for McCain's and Obama's "Cost of Government Days", based on their publicly stated proposals, and to no one's surprise, John McCain is better for us in this hypothetical calculation than Barack Obama.
What jumps out at Doocy from Norquist's repeatedly plugged website is that Obama would raise the estate tax ("death tax") to 55% if elected; Bush's tax breaks for the wealthy enacted early in his first term will lapse in 2010. Norquist is opposed, of course, and called it "...the government stealing half of all your savings that you've accumulated in your life because you're stupid enough to die."
FOX is busy hammering all the right-wing talking points to bolster McCain and trash Obama, though they studiously ignore Obama strengths and McCain's weaknesses.
