FOX twofer smears Obama (Wright again) and congratulates McCain

Reported by Chrish - April 24, 2008 -

This morning 4/24/08 FOX and Friends First aired the ad being run by the North Carolina GOP that uses footage - that widely overused clip - of retired pastor Jeremiah Wright. The ad is against two Democrats who are running for Governor, who both support Barack Obama for President. FOX ran the ad in entirety (for free, as it was presented as a news item) and scored hits against Obama and the gubernatorial candidates, AND gave props to John McCain for decrying the ad.

Gretchen Carlson is not surprised that Republicans in NC are using the Wright footage in a political campaign (a sure harbibger of things to come, should Obama get the nimination.) The ad per se is not for McCain, it's for Democratics running for state office who inturn support Obama.

Doocy then introduced the ad asking "Is it effective? You be the judge. Watch." The ad was preceded by text asking people to go to a website to contribute to keep it on the air. On principle, I'm not posting the video and giving this divisive propaganda more exposure. It featured Wright's "god damn America" speech, or rather the inflammatory tidbit (with the "damn" bleeped out, wussies), while a voiceover said that Barack Obama sat in his pews for twenty years, listening. Now, the two candidates (Beth Perdue and Richard Moore) endorse Obama; "they should know better. He's just too extreme for North Carolina." A little old librarian-looking lady then comes on to say the NCGOP sponsored the ad opposing Perdue and Moore for NC governor.

Doocy and Carlson laughed at the seemingly sweet old lady, and Doocy said Obama's camp acknowledged McCain's statement but said he could do more. They had a portion of McCain's letter handy, with graphics, "The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you not to run this advertisement."

What more can he do? asked Carlson. It's not his ad, defended Doocy.

Another twofer: McCain comes off looking rightly disgusted at this low blow, and Obama is once again painted as a follower of a seemingly anti-American radical. Informed people know that Obama has denounced some of Wright's views and statements, and the statements seen are taken out of context, but we're talking FOX swallowers here.

Don't forget Bill Moyers interview with Wright tomorrow, 4/25, on PBS' "Bill Moyers' Journal." Check local listings here.
