Business Information MIA from Cavuto on Business

Reported by Judy - August 6, 2006 -

Someone should remind Neil Cavuto that the title of his show is "Cavuto on Business" and that people who tune in to his Fox News program might be expecting to hear a little about what is going on in the commercial world. But then, Cavuto would have more trouble singing the praises of George Bush.

Cavuto on Saturday (August 5, 2006) spent most of the show discussing the war in the Middle East between Israel and Hezbollah and then showed a bit of his interview with George Bush -- the part where they talked about how well the economy is doing, right before the monthly report came out showing unemployment went UP, and how Cavuto can't understand why the public is so uneasy.

Then, Cavuto closed the show with his opinion that actions of the Federal Reserve Board are a bigger threat to the economy than the Mideast. Cavuto claimed that the federal reserve could "assure" a slowdown, or even a recession, in the economy by raising interest rates again, at a time when job growth is slowing and unemployment rising. If it's so darn serious, why didn't he devote the entire show to that instead of having former New York City Mayor Ed Koch discuss the impact of the Middle East on the economy?

Is Cavuto totally clueless about what constitutes business news? Maybe he just doesn't know where to look for business news ideas. He might have tried:

"Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 113,000 in July, and the
unemployment rate rose to 4.8 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the
U.S. Department of Labor reported today." http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

"Bond prices surged and the dollar sank to its lowest level in two months against the euro Friday after a weaker-than-expected jobs report led traders to bet that the Federal Reserve may pause after two years of rate hikes." http://biz.yahoo.com/cnnm/060804/080406_bonds.html?.v=1

"Delta Air Lines Inc. filed a formal request with bankruptcy court late Friday to terminate its pilots' pension plan, as President Bush prepared to sign a bill aimed in part at helping the struggling carrier save its other employees' pensions." http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060804/delta_pilots.html?.v=14

"Walt Disney World is raising the price of a one-day, one-park ticket to $67, the company announced Friday." http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060804/disney_prices.html?.v=1

Had Cavuto read some of these stories, he might have had a clue as to why people are uneasy with the economy.
