O'Reilly Cause of Gitmo Suicides?
Reported by Judy - June 14, 2006
Leave it to Jon Stewart to cut through the crap for the rest of us. Day after day. So it was no surprise that he got to the bottom of the recent suicides by detainees at Guantanamo Bay. We've got the video if you missed his show Tuesday (June 13, 2006).
Stewart shrewdly skewers O'Reilly with his own words, airing a clip in which O'Reilly notes that three prisoners committed suicide shortly after he visited. A visit by O'Reilly is enough to drive anybody over the edge.
Then Stewart follows up that juxtaposition with a clip of O'Reilly "explaining" the controversy over Guantanamo Bay. According to the brilliant O'Reilly, the controversy over treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay revolves around the legal status of the detainees -- the Bush administration thinks they are POWs and liberals think they are criminals entitled to due process.
Then Stewart played a clip of Condoleeza Rice saying that the detainees are enemy combatants, not POWs.
Stewart's conclusion: O'Reilly needs to get straight what it is the Bush administration wants him to say.
Here's the video. Enjoy!
