President Bush Asks and FOX News Delivers

Reported by Ellen - January 25, 2006

During today’s PR blitz to defend warrantless spying on Americans, President Bush insisted that the program be renamed “terrorist surveillance.” No sooner said than done by Harris Faulkner on FOX News.

Faulkner not only adopted the term as her own, she didn’t bother to mention that she was doing the president’s bidding. Leading off tonight’s Hannity & Colmes newsbreak at the bottom of the hour, Faulkner said, “President Bush defending his terror surveillance program at the place which MAKES IT HAPPEN (her emphasis).” For extra Bush PR, “Homeland Security” appeared in large letters next to her as she spoke.

Props to reporter Steve Centanni for having at least some independence and journalistic scruples. Centanni, who provided more details on Bush’s speech, described it as Bush’s “secret surveillance program,” “domestic eavesdropping” and “eavesdropping program.” During a clip from Bush’s speech, the screen said, “Pres Bush visits NSA, defends eavesdropping w/o warrants.”
