2005 Beltway Boys Awards
Reported by Deborah - December 31, 2005
Mort Kondracke and Fred Barnes must have lost their seasonal spirit a bit early this year judging by their award choices and nasty comments during their 8th Annual Year End Awards Show.
Smartest Move: John Roberts
Dumbest Moves: John Murtha speaking out about Iraq and the politicizing of Terry Schiavo.
Turncoats of the Year: Bill and Hillary Clinton for speaking out against Iraq.
Gone and Not Forgotten: Pope John Paul and William Renquist
Forgotten But Not Gone: Cindy Sheehan who is "still trying to get President Bush to come out and give her cookies"
John Kerry described as a loser who nobody listens to.
Gone and Forgotten: Dan Rather who Kondracke claimed is still muttering about the documents.
Michael Brown which was one of the few signs of balance in the show.
Not Gone and Not Forgotten: CIA Leak case which Barnes described as "listening in on Al Qaeda phone calls".
Hero: Joe Lieberman
Unsung Hero: Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. The Boys added that the NOLA Mayor was in a panic and the Louisiana Governor was frozen in ice until her husband told her what to do.
Best Idea: Gang of 14 because they made filibuster impossible allowing Frist to hold the Nuclear Option over the heads of opponents.
Worst Idea: Bush flying over Katrina damage. Barnes added that Bill Clinton wouldn't make that mistake snearing "he was always feeling your pain."
Best Spin: Bush Veterans Day Speech which caused his polls to rise right away.
Spoiler: Howard Dean who was misquoted and dishonored thoroughly by the Boys.
comment: At that point, I gave myself a New Years gift and turned them off. I may never know the others honored and dishonored by Mort and Fred but for me they are gone and completely forgotten.
Note: This is not a complete list. There were a few more people honored and dishonored by the Boys that I didn't include because I turned it off a few times in disgust and then went back to it. If anyone had the stomach to watch the whole thing, feel free to fill in the missing details.
