Fox Reporter - Algiers, LA - Blessed By A Higher Power

Reported by Donna - September 26, 2005

Studio B with Shepard Smith was a virtual replay of what fellow News Hound, Nancy, reported on with several on site reports about Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

But one reporter decided to inject his own opinion into his report from Algiers, Louisiana.

Under the banner 'America's Challenge' Steve Brown reported that Algiers, LA, was one of the areas of New Orleans that was not flooded during Hurricane Katrina or its aftermath. He told us how Algiers had drinkable water, power, sewage service, even garbage service and one supermarket open.

But he chose to end his report on this note, "There is a sense of normalcy. There is that sense that they were very fortunate, perhaps blessed by a higher power and that they hope the same blessing will be distributed over the rest of New Orleans, over the rest of southeast Louisiana, over the rest of the region suffering for so many days of being away from their homes."

Comment: If they were truly blessed by a higher power, maybe Steve Brown should have watched the rest of Studio B that focused on the total devastation suffered throughout the region. What would Steve Brown say the rest of the region was? 'Not blessed' by a higher power, or damned by a higher power? To even inject 'blessed by a higher power' is insulting to all of those who lost everything in this storm. Note to Steve Brown: Stick to the story and avoid references to a 'higher power', you make it sound as though those who lost everything deserved it.
