Bad Week For Republicans and Their President

Reported by Deborah - August 6, 2005

There was no way to ignore all the bad news for Bush this week on the Beltway Boys. Mort Kondaracke tried to take some of the edge off the bleak reality for Fox viewers by bringing up some of his percieved successes for the Administration before talking about the hard core stuff. However, Kondaracke's positive list was equally dismal.

According to Kondaracke, CAFTA, good job numbers, Bolton and Roberts were the good news. Then Kondaracke listed the bad news.
Violence in Iraq
Tanking Social Security initiative
Karl Rove/ CIA leak
Very low poll numbers

Tony Snow, in for Barnes, was upbeat and unruffled by the bad news. Snow claimed that the Brookings Institute reported that 70% of Iraqis are hopeful adding that there are more TV stations and internet activity now in Iraq but admitted that electricity is still a problem.
He claimed that there was one week in July that was the least violent so far in Iraq and everyone just needs to talk about victory more. Snow dismissed Karl Rove and Traitorgate claiming it has dissolved and just a summer pastime.

Kondaracke was very supportive of the Presidential vacation claiming that Bush will be working very hard in Crawford all month and Tony Snow nodded in agreement.

comment: Mort Kondaracke rushed right through the list of problems as if he was walking over hot coals. Snow's lame defense was laughable. People are angry and want out of Iraq and no amount of "victory talk"is going to stop this momentum. Also the idea that Traitorgate has dissolved is wishful thinking. The Republican nightmares are just beginning.
