News Hounds to Hannity: Are You Lying Or Just Woefully Misinformed About Appointment of Ruth Bader Ginsburg? Example #1

Reported by Ellen - July 26, 2005

Night after night, Sean Hannity has repeatedly misrepresented the confirmation process of Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court. Is he lying or is he misinformed? Neither reflects well on a national news host. However, we News Hounds are so sick of his distortions that from now on, we plan to email about his misstatements so that he can't claim ignorance. Not only that, we plan to keep count. So here's Ruth Bader Ginsburg Untruth Example #1 from Monday 7/25/05.

Hannity: Bill Clinton gets to pick an ACLU former general counsel because he won an election, but if a conservative president wins, and he picks somebody with his judicial philosophy, you oppose him just on those grounds.

Guest Mark Morial responded that the president nominates but that the senate confirms. Comment: Here's yet another Democrat unaware of Hannity's modus operandi. Anyone who has seen Hannity twice, would have expected this remark and been ready to challenge its veracity.

Hannity (continuing): Why did Republicans support Ruth Bader Ginsburg, former general counsel for the ACLU, if they didn't respect the election results that Bill Clinton won?

In fact, according to mediamatters.org and other sources, the reason Republicans supported Ginsburg is because her nomination was suggested by Republican Senator Orrin Hatch. In other words, she was a consensus nominee, which Bush's nominee, John Roberts, is not. If Hannity doesn't know that distinction, he should.

We'll do our best to make sure he does.
