Durbin Gets Totally Foxed

Reported by Deborah - June 18, 2005

Enough is never enough on Fox when there's a Democrat ripe for smearing. The campaign against Dick Durbin began this morning on Fox&Friends with a formal statement from Kay Bailey Hitchinson at 9:17AM.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson, appropriately garbed in red, recited the talking points about Al-Jazeera reporting Durbins comment and how he has inspired the insurgents. Hutchinson added that Gitmo is the best option and they are people trying to kill Americans.

Tuning in later in the afternoon Uma Pemmaraju, on FNL, was spouting the same talking points.

Joseph Pearl and Ryan Lizza were on for debate. Pearl, of course said that Durbin's statement of regret was disingenuous. Lizza claimed that these kinds of comments pop up on both sides and always cause a temporary uproar. No surprises from these guys.

Pemmaraju's response, as a news broadcaster, could hardly be described as objective.First came the Al-Jazeera point claiming that it was already playing on Al-Jazeera adding the aid and comfort to the enemy comment next. A bit later she asked about Durbin's most recent statement.
"Why do you think he's dug his heels in deeper?"

Lizza repeated that these kinds of comments are nothing new in politics but Pemmaraju wouldn't accept this.
" At the same time the stakes are higher now." She went on saying there could be "harm to our soldiers and folks at home."

comment: This morning I watched Fox & Friends for 40 minutes total. There was another Durbin piece at 9:37 AM but I chose not to monitor it for the sake of my nervous system. Later in the afternoon, the Durbin segment came on as soon as I tuned in so I have no way of knowing how many times the story was repeated today. However, several times would probably be a safe guess.
