War Montage Disrespectful To A Man Of Peace

Reported by Deborah - April 4, 2005

Hannity & Colmes tonight was devoted to honoring the Pope and his contributions and until the last 10 minutes, the show was in good taste. The last segment was devoted to the awarding of the Medal Of Honor to a soldier who had been killed in Iraq and Ollie North was on hand to provide some over the top patriotic zeal.Considering the Pope's stand on the Iraq War, was it really the right thing to do?

The Pope spoke out against the invasion of Iraq many times and he made it clear to this administration that he did not approve of their positions in the Middle East.Yet tonight a war montage full of the violence that distressed this Pope was shown on H&C to honor the recipient of the Medal. This was topped off with an interview of the Soldier's grief stricken widow telling North, in tears, about the night she learned of her Husband's death.

Comment: No one can argue that the Medal Of Honor is a monumental achievement that deserves our attention and appreciation for all our troops. Yet, how interesting that after hearing about John Paul II's devotion to human rights, peace and non violent approaches to solving International disputes, this montage of violence would be shown. Was it simply an insensitive choice or was there another message for the admirers of the Pope.
