What a Difference a Few Words Can Make
Reported by Melanie - June 3, 2004 -
Tonight's BBC World News program included a report that cleric Ali al Sistani in Iraq gives "guarded endorsement" of choice of Iraqi government.
COMMENT: In the US press, the word "guarded" is omitted.
Then, at 8:5l p.m. ET BREAKING NEWS! (A rarity on the BBC. When they announce breaking news, you listen.) Embley reports: "we're getting word on progress in talks between North and South Korea."
COMMENT: Progress in talks between the two Koreas? Reports that the two are talking isn't even covered in the U.S. television media, much less any "progress."
