Reported by Melanie - May 31, 2004 -

Opening today's show, host BBC World News host Mike Embley says "the US is accused of interfering" in the choice of Iraq's new Prime Minister. Stephen Speech reports by saying: the US is "trying to impose a new council against their [Iraqi] wishes."

Stephen Speech proceeds to report that the the Iraqi Governing Council, a "body subservient to the occupying powers" serves in a "largely ceremonial role."

(COMMENT: This sort of honest, plain talk never heard on US news reports)
