White House Challenges Fox

Roger Ailes' Less Than Ringing Endorsement Of Glenn Beck
Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and Arianna Huffington had an interesting exchange on ABC's This Week today in which she confronted him about the "inciting... paranoid style" of Glenn Beck which she characterized as dangerous. Color me suspicious, but Ailes' response, that Beck was speaking about Hitler and Stalin and that he was "probably accurate" struck me as a less than full-throated defense of Beck and showed some defensiveness. Ailes also claimed that Beck said "one unfortunate thing which he apologized for." Was Ailes referring to Beck calling President Obama a racist which a deep-seated hatred for white people and white culture? Because I must have missed that apology. In fact, News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch agreed with Beck (before he disagreed with him.) Video via Think Progress after the jump. Let us know what you think of Ailes' comments.

Fact Check Fox Tonight
If the advance billing at Fox Nation, FoxNews.com and other right-wing sites is anything to go by, the airwaves and blogosphere will erupt with lies and spin galore before, during, and after President Obama's State of the Union speech tonight (9 PM EST). The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee are getting ready to push back hard by establishing a "Fact Check Fox" rapid response team for tonight - and you can help.

Anita Dunn Laughs Off Being a Mao-Lover, Takes Parting Shot at Fox News
Fox News has had its collective panties in a bunch since last month when White House Communication Director Anita Dunn’s made some severely negative comments about Fox. And boy oh boy, has Fox News ever been doing the whole hand-wringing thing in its own defense. Bret Baier had his predecessor, Brit Hume, on his show – along with Mary Katharine Ham and Juan Williams -- to scold the White House for taking on the media (oh, is that what we’re calling Fox News these days)? O’Reilly, too, brought Brit Hume on to defend Fox. Neil Cavuto had a little sexist rant on his show about her comments; you can see his mini-meltdown here. And of course, being the home of best defense/good offense, Fox took off on a Dunn-bashing crusade over a comment she made regarding Chairman Mao. Recently, as reported by News Hounds’ Ellen, Hannity had racist right-wing goofball, Bill Bennett, on his show, and Bennett, kind of as a calculated afterthought, threw the whole Anita-Dunn-Loves-Chairman-Mao thing out there. So, now, Dunn is leaving her position as White House Communications Director (no, Beck, you didn't chase her off -- Dunn had never planned to serve long, joining for on an interim basis in April.) As Dunn makes her exit with a parting shot at Fox, the talking head cases at Fox will no doubt be gnawing their own limbs off in frustration.

Jon Stewart Nails Fox News' Fiction About Its "News Division"
I just wish Stewart had not perpetuated the false myth that MSNBC is the left-wing equivalent of Fox. MSNBC has nothing like the parade of Becks, Coulters, Malkins, et al. for the left the way FNC has for the right. Also, MSNBC's news reporting is not in synch with Olbermann, Maddow and Schultz the way Stewart showed Fox News' reporting synchronizes with its opinion shows. Still, Stewart hits more than one bullseye about Fox. Video after the jump.
