Fox’s Greta Van Susteren appeared on This Week yesterday and diverged from the Fox/GOP party line of defending House Majority Whip Steve Scalise despite his admitting to speaking to a white supremacist group in 2002.
In a roundtable discussion, Van Susteren didn’t mince words about Scalise and his leadership position in the Republican party:
VAN SUSTEREN: I think he’s a distraction but I think this is a huge missed opportunity for the Republican Party. If the Republican Party wanted to send a message out there, and I don’t know whether it’s fair to Congressman Scalise or not fair to him, or whatever, but associating with David Duke is grossly unwise.
There’s no secret who David Duke is. I realize it’s 12 years ago; he says he was there. Some people say he wasn’t there. I don’t know what that is. But if you want to send a messages to the American people, Republicans and Democrats, this would have been the opportunity to say he should step aside, whether it’s fair or not, and send a message that we’re not going to have this distraction. We really do want to have everybody on board.
…
And the moral courage would be to step down because it sends a very bad message to the American people.
It’s worth pointing out that Fox’s Charles Krauthammer suggested – albeit in a more tempered way – that Scalise should step down, too.
Watch it below, from yesterday's This Week.
NOTE TO MEDIA PARTNERS
A huge scandal is in the making this election season. It will be historic. Duke has names of closet racist lawmakers, and other high profile names. Start digging.
