In case you haven’t heard, there’s a group of truckers who plan to "Ride for the Constitution," i.e. converge on our already-reeling nation’s capitol this weekend in order to “shutdown Obamacare and corruption in DC.” We’re talking not just extreme right-wingers but extremist right-wing birthers who want President Obama removed from office because he is a “threat to our national security” and “our future generations.” But one of the organizers - who may think President Obama is the same person as Osama Bin Laden - was given a friendly perch on On The Record last night.
TPM Muckraker has the scoop on these “Ride for the Constitution” truckers:
A group billing itself as the “Independent Truckers of America” has vowed to flood the nation’s roadways this weekend with a “Ride For The Constitution” in order to “save our nation” from “domestic enemies such as Barack Obama, John Kerry, Lindsay Graham and John McCain.”
According to the Ride For The Constitution website, this “Truckers Shutdown” will feature “potentially hundreds of thousands of truckers and millions of citizens” converging Friday through Sunday on the nation’s capital. There will also be affiliated rallies at rest areas and displays on highway overpasses. The faces of this event are a right wing radio host, outspoken gun activist and “libtard” hater Mark Kessler, as well as a former trucker who believes President Barack Obama is “a radical Islamist.”
The Ride For The Constitution site describes the event as having started based on a Facebook group that was created by a “former trucker” named Zeeda Andrews and her friend Benjamin. Andrews has an active personal Facebook page where she has posted a slew of political statements including; that “Obama’s Birth Certificate is a fraud,” the Muslim Brotherhood controls the White House, and a graphic encouraging her Facebook friends to say “FUCK ALLAH.”
Crazy? You betcha. But apparently, that was no reason not to host Andrews for a friendly interview that FoxNews.com called, “Truckers look to take Constitutional stand.” All part of Fox’s mission to hear all (anti-Obama) sides, I guess.
Van Susteren introduced Andrews merely as a “protest organizer and country singer.” The lead-off question was, “Tell me, Zeeda, why are the truckers coming to town?” As if it was a convention or a conference. Even though the day before, Andrews' co-organizer suggested violence would be justified if the plan to get members of Congress to resign doesn't pan out.
Andrews said that “Ride for the Constitution is an event that every American can participate in. …This is going to go coast-to-coast.” She claimed that “your overpassers” and “your state capitols,” along with rest areas will be involved in this “peaceful protest.”
Then Andrews explained the goal:
What we want is, we want the president of the United States removed from office. He is a threat to our national security. He is a threat to our way of life. He is a threat to our future generations.
To her credit, Van Susteren did interrupt and say that she had to end the interview, apparently abbreviating it. But not before getting the details on the protest. “They arrive Friday morning, is that correct?” Van Susteren asked. Then, after Andrew gave out the details of where and when the group will originate, Van Susteren ended with a friendly, “We’ll certainly see the trucks here in town. Zeeda, thank you.”
She never challenged a word of Zeeda’s “Constitutional” goal of removing a democratically elected president.
It’s not as if Andrews is not a known quantity. Had Van Susteren done any research, she could have found out, as Media Matters did, for example, that Andrews thinks Osama bin Laden is the same person as President Obama. Or maybe they’re just identical twins:
In a comment posted to YouTube in mid-2013, Andrews encourages people to “do your research” and lays out her theory that “Osama Bin Laden is our President Obama,” explaining that they “have same height, bone structure, hands and ears both are left handed”:
There are plenty of other red flags associated with this protest that if Fox didn’t see it could only be because they didn’t want to. And we know why. Because just like the phony “Obama is funding a Muslim museum while he shuts down World War II memorials” story Fox & Friends credulously promoted over the weekend, the real goal on Fox is to advance its partisan agenda. Truth, reason and decency are second.
Sure, Zeeda, they’re the same person.
Just ignore the four-plus year age difference, the almost four inch difference in height, the fact that one’s parents were Saudi while the other was the product of the union between an African man and American woman . . .
.
Greta has always been a sucker for “ordinary people” organizing for political action— as long as they’re on the right wing. She’s also a total captive of the info her producers choose to feed her, so likely didn’t have a clue what the agenda and beliefs of these people are.
But this is a little much even for Greta. I guess 7:00 PM is an opportunity her producers see to go full wacko.
Yeah, that’ll show ’em.
