Discussing Boehner's Speech On The Economy, Van Susteren More Challenging Of Democratic Guest Than Republican
Fox News' "Democratic" host, Greta Van Susteren, held what she put forth as "fair and balanced" reaction to Minority Leader John Boehner's speech yesterday calling for President Obama to fire economic adviser Larry Summers and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. It's true that there were two segments with Congressional representatives: Mike Pence and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. But Van Susteren's behavior with the two was markedly different. Guess which one got the vigorous challenges from the host?

More Attacks on Treasury Secretary Geithner – With Unsubstantiated Evidence
Guest Blogged by Nayef
On the "Freedom Watch" program on Wednesday ( 1/13/10), host Andrew Napolitano appeared to want Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's head on a chopping block – despite the fact that he had no facts to explain exactly why Geithner was the bad guy. As usual, Fox – this time in the form of Napolitano – didn't want to overburden the viewers with pesky facts. It was perfectly sufficient to simply imply that some Obama official was doing something horrible and ought to be fired. Napolitano no doubt had faith that Fox' average viewer couldn't care less about facts – as long as some Dem or liberal was getting whacked, preferably someone in the Obama Administration. The right v. wrong of the AIG situation isn't really the point – which is good, because the segment was so superficial and trivial I had to get “real” information from other sources. What is the point was Napolitano's unfair, unbalanced, and selective reporting. With video.

Glenn Beck’s Witch Hunt Of The Day Deceptively Edits Obama’s Remarks About Constitution To Suggest He Doesn't Like It
With the ACORN witch hunt temporarily on hold, Glenn Beck went back to his Un-American activities witch hunt with the spotlight, as usual, on President Obama. For a bit of variety, Beck added a few more Democrats: Timothy Geithner, Nancy Pelosi, Ben Bernanke and, for good measure, Beck found a new black person to smear, Rep. Jim Clyburn. Without bothering to discuss or analyze the serious insinuations he was making, Beck played selective soundbites to suggest that each of the people shown were somehow disloyal to or a threat to the Constitution. In the case of Obama, Beck stole an old smear from Rush Limbaugh by playing a clip of Obama saying that the Constitution is “an imperfect document.” But though Obama was referring to the document’s treatment of slaves when he said that, Beck cleverly edited Obama’s comment to leave that part out. He also selectively edited out Obama’s statement that the Constitution is “a remarkable political document that paved the way for where we are now.” With video.

Beck And Bachmann Spread More Paranoid Falsehoods About Geithner And The Dollar
Glenn Beck revisited the phony Republican/wingnut conspiracy theory about Secretary Timothy Geithner supposedly “being open to” replacing the U.S. Dollar with some international, One World currency. It's black helicopter kind of thinking, and even Republican pollster Scott Rasmussen admits it's a phony issue, but it is being promoted by none other than Rep. Michele “Congress should be investigated to make sure they're really pro-American” Bachmann. So who did Beck call on to discuss it? Someone who might be a genuine spokesperson for Geithner? An independent journalist or observer? Anyone who might offer a “fair and balanced” perspective? No, the sole guest for the discussion was Bachmann. With video.
