The O’Reilly Factor was so full of sour grapes in its preview of President Obama’s State of the Union last night, I knew that could only mean that Obama was going to deliver a heckuva speech. Especially when guest Charles Krauthammer said its purpose was to “crush the Republicans” and get the wheels rolling on Obama’s secret plan to weaken the military and redistribute the wealth to welfare queens.
O’Reilly began the segment by citing Dick Cheney’s “interesting” attacks on Obama. In case you missed it, Cheney had said earlier in the day that Obama was deliberately debilitating the military because he wants to “take us down a peg.” I can just imagine the kind of collective hissy fit Fox Newsies would throw if, say, Bill Clinton made such comments on the day of a George W. Bush State of the Union. But when it’s “WMD’s” Cheney doing the smearing of Obama, it’s an excuse for more smearing.
“And you say?” O’Reilly asked guest Charles Krauthammer as a follow up.
Krauthammer said it was “very difficult” to know Obama’s motives. But that didn’t stop him from theorizing anyway. Krauthammer’s view was not that Obama wants to destroy the military to damage America’s international prestige but to weaken it in order to further his “European Social Democrat” agenda. “He’s a man who wants to go against inequality, to reduce inequality.” Citing Obamacare as an example of how Obama is trying to make the U.S. more like Europe, Krauthammer asked, “How do you get the money to subsidize an entitlement state? In two ways, as the Europeans have shown us: raise taxes… Obama is very intent on raising taxes relentlessly, and reducing defense spending.”
O’Reilly, in an obviously petulant mood, attacked Obama for not “just saying” what he’s apparently up to. “He’s never gonna say ‘I’m gonna take the money from the military and give it to people because I think that’s the social just way to go.' …I’m getting tired of the dance… Just say it now!’”
Then, as if in resigned acknowledgment of what the speech would bring, Krauthammer said, “He wins with that (dance).”
O’Reilly agreed. “Yeah, and that’s what he does all day long.”
Krauthammer added, “He’s giving this speech to crush the Republicans whom he already has on the run.” If Obama succeeds and can “neutralize” the House Republicans over the sequester, Krauthammer said, he can “change the country the way he said he would and the way he started to in Years One and Two.”
In case you don’t know, news outfits (and even blogs sometimes) get advance copies of presidential speeches. The O’Reilly Factor aired live last night, right before the State of the Union, so it’s a safe bet both the host and the guest already knew what would be said. And judging from this whinefest, they were very worried.
America’s all about massive enslavement with li’l nuggets of gold for people who beat the system. That’s My America!
As I learned, it that was the whole point of “American exceptionalism”: the idea that a person – whatever his or her origins – but willing to work hard could snap the chains of servility, class and poverty. Such praise for Inequality ain’t American in my book.
When did the new meme of “I’ve got mine, push off!” become gospel?
