In an interview with Deadline, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly argued that she scored her big Duggar interview because of her interviewing chops. But her connection to the Duggar family's PR person may have been the real key.
Deadline reported the following comments from Kelly:
“I reached out to them and made the case I was the best for the job,” Fox News’ Megyn Kelly says of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s decision to give her their first interview since In Touch broke the story that their now 27-year-old son Josh had, when a teen, allegedly fondled underage girls, including some of his sisters.
… “I specifically told their representative, ‘You know my reputation. I’ve never been accused of giving anyone a pass and I’m not going to give them a pass. If you want a soft place to fall, I’m not your person… I think it’s a service to you to have me ask tough questions’.”
But CNN’s Brian Stelter revealed that Kelly had an in with the Duggars: a man named Chad Gallagher, a principal at Legacy Consulting, who probably played a major role in deciding who should do the interview.
According to Stelter, Gallagher does public relations work for both the Duggars and former Fox News host Mike Huckabee. Legacy Consulting was “instrumental in picking which network and which person would get the first interview,” Stelter said.
“Why does all this matter?” Stelter asked. “Well, it shows that the Duggars want to speak to their base. They want to speak to their Christian conservative base so they’re seeking out Fox News.”
Stelter pointed out that the Duggars could have gone on a morning show. “By going to Fox it seems like they’re going to speak to their base instead.” Furthermore, the fact that the Duggars work with the same PR firm as Huckabee “goes to show the deep connections that exist in this family.”
It also goes to show the deep connections that exist between Fox News and conservative America.
We’ll be looking for where Kelly draws the line between journalist and conservative pal tonight.
Meanwhile, watch the CNN discussion below, from the June 2 CNN Tonight, via Media Matters.
“Was there any doubt Fox News would be the Duggars network of choice? It’s the number one news source for people in denial.”
Hmmmmmmmmmm, I always thought “denial” was a huge river in Egypt!
;^)
If Barbie Megyn was a real Catholic should would reveal tto her audience the connections, but she won’t. She is a sad excuse for an attorney.
“We tried to raise our kids to do what’s right — to know what’s right. And yet one of our children made really bad choices."
Bad choices?! Nope, sorry Duggars, but you don’t get to frame it like that and get away with it. Bad choices by your kid are when they get drunk and get in a brawl or they get caught stealing or they don’t study and they flunk out. Molestations do NOT fall under the heading of “bad choices” but rather it is a sign of a sick mind, counts as sexual abuse and qualifies as criminal behavior.
That these parents would refer to what their son did “bad choices” and allow him back in the house with their daughters is infuriating to me. Clearly they still do not understand the ramifications of what he did and that their actions to cover-up were despicable. Grrr!
