Shep Smith Socks It To 'Em Again - You Go, Guy!
Gotta hand it to Fox News’ Shep Smith – despite being a salmon swimming upstream, he’s trying valiantly to live up to the “Fair and Balanced” meme that Fox News loves to tout. Either Fox News is dipping a toe into the “fair and balanced” waters by floating it out there via Smith, or his ratings (according to a recent New York Times article, in the 7:00 hour Smith swept in the ratings at 465,000 viewers) are forcing the Fox News powers-that-be to grumble in private and let him roll. Either way, as reported by the Huffington Post, yesterday (10/27/09) on Studio B Smith slapped down Shannon Bream’s lack of “fair and balanced” in her reporting on the campaign for governor in New Jersey. Bream, true to form, conducted an on-air interview with the Republican candidate, Chris Christie, but looked blankly at the camera for a moment when Smith asked her when she would interview the Democratic candidate, and current Governor, Jon Corzine. It probably hadn’t occurred to her that it would be a, you know, good, journalistic thing to do. Clearly flustered, and a little defensive, it seemed, Bream replied, “We have in multiple requests, and when it comes in, we'll let you know.” With video

Hannity Trots Out Mark Fuhrman To Assist With Racial Attacks And Distortions Re Obama And Gates
Yes, THAT Mark Fuhrman, one of a long string of white guys accused of racism for whom Sean Hannity has a special affinity (and not counting Hannity's special affinity for white supremacist Hal Turner, currently in jail for threatening a series of public officials). Last night (7/28/09), Hannity and Fuhrman put their heads together for some further racial attacks on President Obama and Professor Henry Gates. For extra smearing, Hannity played an excerpt of Gates’ 1994 interview with C-Span, edited to make him sound like a black radical when, in fact, he was saying something entirely different. With video.

Shepard Smith Speaks Out About Right-Wing Extremist Violence Viz A Viz Holocaust Museum Shooting
We have to take our hats off to Shepard Smith for speaking his mind plainly and, given the other coverage (or lack thereof) that I saw on Fox tonight about the shooting of the Holocaust Museum guard, it was obviously not in the official Fox News playbook.

Shepard Smith Tells Fox Host: We Are America! We Do Not Fucking Torture!
I hope you will all join me in giving Fox News host Shepard Smith a virtual standing ovation for his emphatic, no-holds-barred stance against torture. We've been sent two YouTube videos of Smith. One on his own show, Studio B, where he much less excitedly told his guests, “We are America. We don't torture. And the moment that is not the case, I want off the train.” On The Strategy Room, an online show, Smith pounded on the table and said vehemently, “We are America! I don't give a rat's ass if it helps! We do not fucking torture!” With video.

Shepard Smith Mocks Glenn Beck
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't get the point of Glenn Beck Friday beyond the fact that Beck kept telling us how momentous it was. In between crying jags, that is. It's interesting to note that Beck seems to be antagonizing a number of his co-workers. Besides Shepard Smith's funny but very pointed digs at Beck, Cavuto was disturbed by Beck's fearmongering and Bret Baier was obviously less than amused when Beck said he looked like he should be on Leave It To Beaver. Smith video after the jump (via Think Progress).
