Neil Cavuto’s first interview on Friday’s Your World was with immigrant-hating, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The pretext for this “business story” was the government spending over $100 million a week taking care of 57,000 undocumented children. But clearly, the real intent was to fuel anger toward the Obama administration. And work in some props for Rick Perry.
If Arpaio is running for higher office, he couldn’t have found a better platform. Although sheriffs don’t typically weigh in on foreign policy, Arpaio held forth as if solving the immigrant crisis was part of his job. In fact, he was asked for his prescription for a cheaper price tag by host Neil Cavuto. Arpaio answered, “We should take away aid, at least reduce the foreign aid (to Mexico), and use that savings to help fund this disastrous issue we have facing our borders and our country right now. If they don’t want to do anything, take away all their foreign aid.”
“Maybe they ought to do an audit of Homeland Security, a bureaucratic agency that’s in a big mess,” Arpaio continued, as part of his cost-savings prescription. “There’s ways to save money. Come on, you can’t save $3 billion? Maybe the president should stop touring the world and stay home and save Secret Service funds.”
But there was one place Arpaio thought Obama should have gone to.
“What do you think of the President not going to the border?” Cavuto asked.
Arpaio answered:
He should’ve gone down there. He was right in Texas. Come on, how long does it take? He can get a good Mexican meal, at least (Cavuto chuckled). Maybe he should pop over the border... and start dealing and threatening the Mexican President. That’s what he should be doing.
What kind of “threatening” did Arpaio think Obama should make? Violence? Invasion? Arpaio didn’t say. Cavuto didn’t ask, either.
But Cavuto did make time for Arpaio to give a plug to Texas governor Rick Perry's presidential campaign.
