Sarah Palin’s reality television series, “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” will soon return to the small screen along with special guest Ted Nugent. Because nothing says “Amazing America” like a draft-dodging, murder-loving, racist trash talking guy like The Nuge.
From the Chicago Tribune:
The series documents Palin as she travels the country to share stories with outdoor enthusiasts, craftsmen and other notable Americans. The second season will feature rocker and outspoken conservative activist Ted Nugent, host of the Outdoor Channel’s “Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild,” in its Jan. 29 episode.
“Ted Nugent is not only a rock-n-roll icon, but a true American outdoorsman who practices what he preaches,” said Palin. “His outspoken candor regarding America and our civil liberties is a breath of fresh air. I’m so excited he’s joining me for an episode this season.”
Really? In 2007, we published proof that Nugent is a draft dodger who toured the country as a musician while he was supposedly too wrapped up in his studies to serve his country. I also wrote:
But that hasn’t stopped Nugent from insisting that if he HAD served, he would have been one big mofo soldier. As the Rutland Herald reported, Here’s what Nugent said he would have done if he went to Vietnam:
“… if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed, or I’d kill all the hippies in the foxholes … I would have killed everybody,” he told the Detroit Free Press in an interview published July 15, 1990.”
The Herald also noted that Nugent’s efforts to avoid the draft make President Bush look like a war hero.
(Nugent claims) that 30 days before his Draft Board Physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last 10 days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and a week before his physical, he stopped using the bathroom altogether, virtually living inside his pants caked with excrement and urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment.
So much for “practices what he preaches.” Nugent’s views on America are hardly a “breath of fresh air” to most Americans, either. In February, Republicans such as Rick Perry, Ted Cruz, John McCain, Rand Paul and Newt Gingrich each condemned Nugent for describing President Obama with the racist slur, “subhuman mongrel.”
That was hardly an anomaly for Nugent. You may recall that during the 2008 presidential campaign, Nugent came close to suggesting both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should be shot. Nugent called Obama “a piece of shit” who should “suck on my machine gun.” He called Clinton, a “worthless bitch” who should “ride into the sunset” on his machine gun.
That’s amazing, all right. But not the way I’d think a reality TV show would want.
