Hannity’s Michael Meyers: Genuine Civil Rights Advocate, or House Negro?

"Uncle Tom" is one of the milder names Michael Meyers, Director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition, was called after saying that President Obama “has ghetto behavior” ( Hannity, 9/5/11). While his remark elicited epithets such as “house negro” and “handkerchief-head” from disgusted African-Americans posting on Facebook, Meyers’ fellow Hannity guests, Republican strategist Noelle Nikpour and Dr.Junk-Food-Is-good-For-You- but-Obamacare-Will-Kill-You Marc Siegal, never even blinked at Meyers’ incongruous insult to the President. Neil Cavuto Still Loves Free, Fat American Kids!

Gotta love the hypocrisy of the right wing. They don’t want taxpayer dollars “killing babies” in taxpayer funded abortions; but, if Neil Cavuto is an arbiter of the right wing, they have no problem with taxpayer dollars funding poor nutrition in our taxpayer funded public schools. Earlier this week (October 14th), Cavuto hosted two women who are fitness and nutritional gurus – and, who, I enviously say, look absolutely fabulous. The Lakatos twins oppose a new federally funded study of childhood nutrition. Thus, the fleshy Neil Cavuto assumed that they would be simpatico with his philosophy that government needs to stay out of school nutrition and give those little chubbies as many Crispy Cremes as they can stuff down their gullets. Thing is that the ladies said that the money would be better spent in setting up nutritional counseling for parents as well as restructuring the way that school lunches are being served. Neil, who joked about how he took two plates of food when he was in school, wasn’t happy with their responses to him. He thinks that our taxpayer funded schools should be free to serve crap because otherwise it would be a nanny state. And who cares about the cost of juvenile diabetes and all the other health consequences cuz “real” American kids need their Freedom Fries, praise Jesus. And lest the Fox loving sycophant (and you know who you are) claims that I am being cruel to a person with MS, here’s the thing. Weight control is very important for those with MS. But in Neil Cavuto’s America, taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund reproductive health care; but when it comes to crappy diets for American kids, who care about costs? In Neil Cavuto’s America, freedom’s just another word for nothing left to eat….!!!!

Olbermann: Fox News a "24-Hour Parade of Feces"

What a difference a day makes. On Tuesday the blogosphere and news programs were buzzing with the news of the firing of Shirley Sherrod by the USDA after Andrew Breitbart published a heavily edited videotape of her making what appeared to be racist remarks. The right high-fived each other while the left despaired and raged over the cave-in by the White House to rightwing propaganda. By Wednesday afternoon, the full video of Ms. Sherrod's speech had been revealed, exonerating her, and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack had apologized to Ms. Sherrod and asked if she would like to return to her department.

In between, Andrew Breitbart and Fox News came under heavy fire from all directions (well, almost all - fire was pretty sparse from the right): Breitbart for race-baiting in order to "discredit" the NAACP, and Fox News for taking Breitbart at face value and hyping his false story as though it was real news deserving of attention. Emotions ran high - and arguably nobody's rhetoric flew higher than Keith Olbermann's, who launched a scathing attack on Fox News, calling the cable news channel a "24-hour parade of feces dressed up as news because of a clever marketing plan." With Video.
