Bill O’Reilly just can’t get his head around the fact that Vice President Joe Biden is polling better than any Republican candidate. His only explanation? Computers and smart phones have “obliterated reality.”
In a Talking Points commentary called “Are Americans losing it?” O’Reilly made it clear he thinks the answer is, “yes.”
What really got O’Reilly is that the same poll found that 62% of Americans think “things in the nation” are off on the wrong track. O’Reilly was fine with that. What he couldn’t understand is how, when Biden was matched up against each Republican presidential candidate, Biden won every time.
O’REILLY: How can these results happen when two-third of the country believe the country is in trouble? Biden’s the vice president. He endorses pretty much everything Barack Obama does. So why would you vote for him?
There’s only one answer for O’Reilly: Americans are too zoned out on computers to know better.
O’REILLY: Talking Points believes the answer to that question is kind of cruel. Many Americans are simply dumb. They don’t know what’s going on. They don’t pay attention. They don’t care.
There’s no question the machines have allowed the individual American to create his or her own world. You don’t have to live in the real world any more. Used to be drugs and alcohol obliterated reality. Now it’s your handheld device, or your PC.
…Is there any other explanation for Vice President Joseph Biden – again, an acolyte of President Obama – defeating the Republican challengers?
Yes, Bill, there are. The big one I can think of is that despite your best efforts and everyone else’s at Fox, President Obama and his veep are heads and shoulders above every one of the Republican candidates.
Watch O’Reilly blame Americans for the flaws of the GOP, below, from the September 30 The O’Reilly Factor.
Yet he says he’s an independent so who am I to question? Then again I accept his word he witnessed the suicide of George De Mohrenschildt so there is that. ;^)
All that said, if Bill O’Reilly was a reflexive, knee-jerk, drooling Republican he’d spew partisan hooey like his Talking Points baloney.
I am disappointed that a Harvard trained journalist with O’Reilly’s tremendous analytical skills (don’t believe me just ask him – he’ll set you straight!) calls people dumb for supporting Biden simply because Bill can’t get his head around this simple concept I learned in grade school: You can’t just put 2 things on a chart (or in a Fox News graphic) and assume they’re related.
Certainly, Obama is president who ‘fair and balanced’ Fox News likes to blame everything on. However, Republicans are running the House and Senate and last time I checked their approval rating sucked worse than anything. And if it’s okay for GOP TV™ to blame Obama at every turn then it’s okay for me to point out the 800 pound guerilla in the room that the Great Recession was born under Dubya’s watch. Maybe America isn’t ready for reruns.
I suspect Bill is simply frustrated Fox News’ right-wing propaganda hasn’t convinced the broader populace their partisan vomit is appealing.
And no one likes Toenail Fungus.
So what does that really say about the GOP candidates?
(Hell, reputable polls still have Hillary pretty much spanking each and every single GOP candidate DESPITE all the phony scandals that have been thrown her way.)
Using BOR’s logic that the “machines” cause people live in false reality and makes them dumb, BOR would have to concede that this also means that Trump and his supporters (who spend a lot of time on the Twitter “machine”) are also dumb, right, BOR?
And, since the “machines” are causing the folks to become “dumb”, then why the hell does BOR have a website, a Facebook page AND a Twitter account? Why doesn’t he just say no to all those “machine”-based options and stick with the “real world”? LOL!
Ellen
Exactly. Apparently, BOR just can’t wrap that biased, pea-brain of his around the idea that a majority of the Americans in that poll believe that, despite whatever challenges we have, electing a GOPer would not make things better (and may even make things worse).
Why is this so hard for BOR to understand? Instead of calling 62% of his fellow Americans “dumb” and then lamely blaming the “machines” that seem to baffle his luddite sensibilities, how about BOR actually take a hard look into why the GOP candidates are such losers with public opinion? At this point, it’s apparent that Americans don’t think the GOP are going to make things better but, instead of investigating why that is, BOR pulls a Trump move out of his bag of misdirection and calls those whose political views don’t align with his “dumb”. What a f*cking cop-out. BOR seems to be incapable of holding the right-wing responsible for their mistaken beliefs, bigoted attitudes and bad policy. BOR doesn’t have the cojones to go there – nah, instead of delving into that, BOR just takes the easy way out and calls Dem supporters “dumb” as if that’s the only reason they wouldn’t vote GOP.
Let’s also not forget that, by labeling those who use the “machines” and vote for Dems as dumb, BOR was really sucking up to his base (older, conservative and scared). He stroked their needy egos by implying that THEY are the smart ones for supporting the GOP and that THEY are the ones living in reality because they don’t use the “machines”. Geez, talk about pandering.
“Dumb” and not living in the “real world”, huh? Perhaps BOR should consider that his 1%er worldview and his safe, little bubble of the FOX “news” studio world means that HE is the one who has a skewed reality? Is this simply BOR preparing for a GOP loss in the Presidential election? A loss that he can bogusly blame on the stupidity of the voters instead of admitting that the GOP has little to offer the average American? One thing is for certain – BOR is in the tank for whichever GOP candidate gets the nomination and his unfair & unbalanced rant proved it.
“Many Americans are simply dumb. They don’t know what’s going on. They don’t pay attention. They don’t care.”
WRONG O’LIELLY: it’s primarily because many Americans DO NOT OR DID NOT HAVE A VERY WELL-OFF AND VERY WELL-CONNECTED FATHER or other relatives in high places helping them through life like YOU did.
’Nuff said.
