Another week, another Bill O’Reilly meltdown. And another rewriting of history of same. Tonight’s target: Curtis Hubbard, editorial page editor of the Denver Post, who called out O’Reilly’s “fact-challenged, bigoted” attack on Colorado’s openly gay Speaker of the House. Actually, O’Reilly already rewrote the history before the meltdown this time. But he rewrote it again as he also hurled insults such as “you’re a ridiculous person” with “a vile little column.” Unfortunately for O’Reilly, it didn’t seem to rattle Hubbard a bit. In fact, you’d have to say O’Reilly was the one who became unglued.
In case you missed it, this bone of O’Reilly’s contention began with his whether-they-want-it-or-not determination to get “Jessica’s Law,” a law that requires heavy mandatory sentences for child molesters, passed in Colorado. As it turns out, Colorado doesn’t want it. O’Reilly’s reaction was to mount two attacks on the Colorado Speaker of the House, for killing the bill, with suggestions that his homosexuality made him dangerously lenient and/or sympathetic to child molesters. As Hubbard aptly put it in his column, “(O’Reilly) was saying ‘gay,’ but what he wanted his listeners to hear was ‘pervert-pedophile.’”
Just as he did after his attack on Alan Colmes, O’Reilly has already tried to recast his attack on Speaker Mark Ferrandino and then columnist Hubbard as an altruistic effort. Tonight, a large graphic appeared on the screen, saying “PROTECTING KIDS IN COLORADO” as O’Reilly introduced his discussion with Hubbard.
O’REILLY: I described Ferrandino to the audience because the audience doesn’t know who the heck he is and I did it in the context of what his priorities are. His priorities are civil unions… and legalizing marijuana… and he’s a gay marriage proponent, as you know. So, I said, here are Ferrandino’s priorities, here’s what he spends his time on, alright?...
HUBBARD: But Bill, you didn’t introduce them as his priorities. And you can go back and look at the tape. You asked your (Republican) guest why he (Democrat Ferrandino) opposed Jessica’s Law and then you used his sexuality and his support for gay marriage as rationale for why he would oppose Jessica’s Law.
Hubbard is exactly right here. You can watch O’Reilly’s two attacks on Ferrandino here. But O’Reilly denied it. And with the grace and style we have become accustomed to from him, he started wagging his pen into the camera and attacking Hubbard personally. “See, you are ridiculous. You’re a ridiculous person. And a journalist? This is disgraceful.”
Kudos to Hubbard for remaining calm and unruffled throughout. And for staying on message. He stuck to his point: “The question remains, what does Representative Ferrandino’s sexuality have to do with passage of Jessica’s Law?”
Which made O’Reilly lose it: “I already explained that to you. If you can’t grasp it, I can’t help you.” He went on to call Hubbard’s “pervert-pedophile” analysis “a disgrace. It’s a disgrace in any column. It’s a smear. You’re a smear merchant.”
Well, Bill, it takes one to know one.
It seemed the calmer Hubbard remained, the more agitated it made O’Reilly. He finished up the segment with a flurry of finger jabbing and fulmination. “You need to look up Delbert Wallace Stiewert. You need to find out what that man did, what a Colorado judge gave him and then you need to come back on this show and tell me you don’t need Jessica’s Law.”
Hubbard said he knows about the case and is “happy to come back and discuss it with you any time.”
“Alright, very good,” O’Reilly said.
Well, that’s something I would totally look forward to.
Don’t get under my skin! Dr. Tiller comes to mind!!!
And when he tried to justify it, what did he talk about? Fernandino is bad because he’s a gay man who supports gay marriage and pot. He tried to force that connotation, bringing in a disgraced head of FEMA who’s now a talk show host.
O’Reilly couldn’t care less about Jessica’s Law if he tried. But he does care intensely about leading a homophobic charge against Fernandino. Otherwise, he’d have a broader focus on it’s opposition.
Iz our troll saying Billdo didn’t use his higher authority to sexually harass Andrea Mackris?
Mr. Swisher, you should do a search on “Andrea Mackris”
It brings all sorts of wonderful information about Bill O’Reilly. Without typing his name.
Nobody is defending child molesters.
But Billdo is demonizing, BTY, see if I give jack over my pet name for Bill O’Reilly, Billdo is demonizing Ferrandino as some mota smoking homo who possibly likes pedophiles, and since we all know homos are perverts, the folks in Colorado need to know this relevant information. Oh, Billdo didn’t stop with Ferrandino, he had to mention Colorado is a state full of dope smokers.
Newshounds, I am trying to make a point. If you must edit the post, I won’t complain.
Since we are trying to defend this here xtian nation from its fall into Sodom, I also take exception to ALL sex offenders. Which of course includes Billdo’s affectionate phone calls describing how he would like to rape a drunk woman. If that is not enough to shame Billdo, I heard he penned some filth were he fantasized about incest.
I don’t object to Billdo’s high horse, but he should live as he preaches. Billdo has damaged America’s reputation. In fact, there might be children as ma’n’pa watch Billdo’s wholesome nightly show.
In this Great American Patriot’s view, Billdo must be castrated and wear his nutz sewn under his chin. I am not saying this just to smear Mr. Bill O’Reilly’s sterling reputation. No, sireeee boobs. Billdo should ride the taller horse and volunteer to be a daily example of his virtuous life.
Mr. Swisher, how tall is your pony?
Yes, the Speaker is very open about being the first gay Speaker in Colorado. It’s news. He made it news and probably used it as part of his platform to get elected. O’Reilly said the Speaker is busy pushing Gay marriage and legalizing marijuana instead of Jessica’s Law. Nothing wrong with his statement if it’s a fact.
“..here’s what he spends his time on, alright?…”
In light of Bill’s new found need for open disclosure of a persons background, I suggest he open his show with:
“I’m Bill O’Reilly. A workplace sexual harasser and stalker of woman, as can be seen by my out of court settlement…Now lets begin the show.”
Here’s the second clip. Bill mentions the Speaker is pro gay marriage and marijuana. That’s it. Maybe there is another clip that I’m not finding online where Bill states anything but fact about the Colorado Speaker? http://youtu.be/ODYdHj1gz8w
No one on this tread has mentioned one sentence about the lack of a bill similar to Jessica’s Law in Colorado. Why is that? I’d love to hear a real answer.
Colorado requires a 2 year minimum sentence + 10 years probation for child sex offenders. That is not enough! Jessica’s Law requires a 25 year prison term. That’s the story here. It’s pathetic that you people want to make this story about gay rights. Even if Bill said something out of line (which I can’t find) the much more important story is Colorado’s weak law. The Speaker + Denver Post guy shockingly seem to agree that a two year minimum sentence is enough. The Speaker won’t even allow a vote on the law. Wow.
How about start going after the Pedophile Priests Bile they are much more in need to be investigated with your hard hitting Journalism, (not), then your absurd phobia with Colorado Laws.
I suspect Bill’s real reason for attacking folks in Colorado is that he probably had his newspaper column yanked from one or more of the papers there; or they cancelled his radio program before it was cancelled by the sindicator(sp?) for lack of listeners. Bill’s extremely petty, as we all know, and when the dust settles it’s usually something personal with his “righteous anger.”
Bildo’s massive ego has been bruised once again. Time to line up the usual sycophants. I’m talking to you Juan, Bernie, Mary Kay, Laura, etc ad nauseam. Bildo will demand that his splotchy ass be kissed openly and repeatedly.
If a child rapist had worn a white collar around his neck, would Billy be so passionate about protecting kids? This Irish volcano claims he’s watching out for kids, yet this clown has not stepped up to the plate to protect the children inside the Catholic church.
We are asking all the masses to contact Hubbard through Twitter @curtishubbard and tell him to ask Billy why he is silent on pedophile priests inside the Catholic church. If Billy wanted to go after child rapists, he should start with the Catholic church. Hubbard can make a fool of Billy in front of his audience.
And “miller time” was such a disgusting clown tonight as well. Good Lord, how low they sink for ratings.
The trouble with that is that the entire state of Colorado told him to shut up, and the rest of the country is starting to follow suit.
Might be good for a ratings spike, but where’s he gonna be when that’s over?
The Journalist did a very nice job of staying cool and staying on message. It’s not what he thinks about “Jessica’s Law”, it’s what bill-o did with his jesse waters cheap shot, third-rate “gotcha-garbage” that he likes to build his reputation on. The bottom line is, as the journalist pointed out numerous times so well, how bill-o tries to label the mayor as “pedophile gay” that apparently must agree with letting child rapist run freely over the hills of Colorado. Such an utter moron.
