Last night, Bill O’Reilly announced that yesterday’s successful Boston Marathon was “clearly a victory over terrorism.” But, apparently desperate for a way to smear liberals, O’Reilly seized on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s policies and accused him of not caring whether or not New York City gets attacked again. In reality, what O’Reilly was doing was setting up de Blasio and any other liberal who isn't anti-Muslim enough, so that he can say, "I told you so" and blame them for any future attack.
In his Talking Points commentary, O’Reilly said about yesterday’s marathon, “So this is clearly a victory over terrorism. The two men who attacked the marathon last year, the Tsarnaev brothers, disgraced their religion, Islam and their country. The oldest, Tamerlan, …is dead. His 20-year old brother Dzhokhar, awaiting trial in the fall, could be executed.
But this wouldn’t be Fox News or The Factor if there wasn’t some ginning up of hatred, fear and divisiveness. Here’s how O’Reilly did it:
However, however, there is some trouble on the horizon.
Here in New York City, the very liberal new Mayor, Bill de Blasio, has canceled undercover police operations targeting militant Muslims.
…But Mayor de Blasio playing to his far left base doesn’t want militant Muslims under watch in the city unless there is probable cause—a much more difficult prospect for police. So once again, political correctness puts all New Yorkers in danger.
…”Talking Points” predicts there will come a time when America will be attacked again. All we can hope for is that the damage will be limited and that the foolish, foolish mistake of Mayor de Blasio is not involved in any way.
Make no mistake: What O’Reilly is up to here is laying the groundwork for blaming de Blasio and all other liberals he can snag for any future attacks. Because while O’Reilly would have you believe that De Blasio dropped the program and turned his back on radical Muslims for the sake of some votes, the reality is quite different. The New York Times reports what O’Reilly left out for some reason:
The Police Department’s tactics, which are the subject of two federal lawsuits, drew criticism from civil rights groups and a senior official with the Federal Bureau of Investigation who said they harmed national security by sowing mistrust for law enforcement in Muslim communities.
…After years of collecting information, however, the police acknowledged that it never generated a lead. Since The Associated Press published documents describing the program in 2011, Muslims and civil rights groups have called for its closing.
Media Matters points out, “This ineffectiveness was admitted under oath by the then-commanding officer of the NYPD’s Intelligence Division, Thomas Galati.”
Far from pinpointing radicals, as O'Reilly suggested, the police cast an overly broad net. From The Times:
The police also designated entire mosques as suspected “terrorism enterprises,” a label that the police claimed allowed them to collect the license plate numbers of every car in mosque parking lots, videotape worshipers coming and going, and record sermons using informants wearing hidden microphones.
Right after his Talking Points, O’Reilly launched an attack on his guest, Osama Siblani, publisher of the Arab American News. If O’Reilly wasn’t ashamed of his untruthful fear mongering in the first part of the segment, he certainly should have been ashamed of his hideously boorish and rude behavior in the second.
And Anti-American. “Patriotic” O’Reilly all but said the Constitution should be shunted aside in favor of his antipathy toward Muslims. But first, O’Reilly baselessly, gratuitously and viciously accused de Blasio of not caring if there’s a terror attack:
O’REILLY: You are basically saying and siding with de Blasio who says, you know what? We don’t really care. We’ll let them attack first, then we’ll do something about it. That’s insane.
SIBLANI: I am siding with the Constitution.
O’REILLY: Oh, yeah. Everybody hides behind the Constitution, Mr. Siblani. …Everybody
By the way, do you think it’s an accident that O’Reilly chose a Muslim he could browbeat for this segment as opposed to – say, a real law enforcement agent who might put a crimp in his agenda?
Also… One unit of one CTU division. They still have TTAG, JTTF, the SI teams, TRIPS, CBRNE, the Maritime units, and the standard units of any CTU. Not to mention the FBI, and local Homeland Security. Bill’s just mad because there won’t be officers who their entire job is to profile and harass Muslims- Despite the cold fact that they aren’t turning up plotters operating within city borders.
But please… Keep talking about “if they were smart.”
There’s a dark lining in every silver cloud – and it’s librul!!!
Hmm. What was O’Reilly’s opinion when Dubya “hid behind the Constitution” as his reason for not testifying before Congress?
