Not only did Megyn Kelly ardently defend Coulter’s refusal to hug an undocumented immigrant but Kelly went the extra mile to tell viewers that it had nothing to do with the person’s ethnicity nor immigration status.
In case you missed it, during a Q&A on Fusion – where Coulter was promoting her new book about how, basically, we’re losing America to (brown) immigrants - an undocumented immigrant asked whether she could give Coulter a hug. Coulter’s refusal made lots of headlines.
Whatever you think of Coulter’s decision, there’s no question that “straight news anchor” Kelly deliberately set out to spin it on Coulter’s behalf. Twice.
Last week, Kelly teamed up with Fox News media critic Howard Kurtz (in the second video below) to praise Coulter as “smart not to fall into this activist’s trap,” as Kurtz put it. “It did seem like a trap,” Kelly helpfully added.
Kurtz went on to gratuitously praise Coulter as having “a genius” for promotion and publicity – without mentioning that her “genius” mostly includes the kind of vile invective that would surely be mentioned, and probably denounced, were she a liberal.
Instead, Kelly portrayed Coulter as a conservative victim. “Let’s not forget that this is the same woman who, when addressing a public crowd not too long ago had a pie thrown at her head unexpectedly!” Kelly said indignantly. “Yet she still goes out there and talks to people, to her credit.”
And let’s not forget that Coulter is also the same woman who jokes about killing people. Oh, and she also has a habit of voting in precincts where she doesn’t live.
Kelly conveniently forgot both the murder fantasies and the likely voter fraud again last night, this time during an interview with Coulter. Unlike the combativeness Kelly displayed when she interviewed Congressman Al Green over Black Lives Matter protests, Kelly was full of quiet respect for Coulter, even as she ranted about “a specific plan to change the demographics in America” by the left in order to ensure “liberal policies win.” Nor did Kelly press for details when Coulter declared, “It’s the culture of America that is being changed.”
Coulter also suggested that the media should be more zealous about reporting the ethnicity of criminals. “It is being hidden. This was done intentionally to our country,” Coulter further alleged, as Kelly sat silent, with her thoughtful expression. The tone of the few questions Kelly asked were completely unlike the condescending hostility in her questions for the Freddie Gray family attorney, e.g.
But starting at about five minutes into last night's interview (the first video below), Kelly did some blatant PR for Coulter.
KELLY: You got hammered for not giving (the questioner) a hug… Did you sense a set up? …I remember seeing them throw the pie at you. …You have to be somewhat reticent when you get up there and a stranger wants you to do something and there’s a camera rolling. …I have the same (no hugging) rule, at least on camera. Not in a way where you don’t know the person and it could be a set up. You don’t know where it’s going to go. It has nothing to do with the person being an illegal immigrant. It has to do with cameras rolling and anything can happen. And history in your case in particular has proven you should be a little wary.
Defending hate mongers: It’s all part of “straight news anchor” Megyn Kelly’s job at Fox News.
