Megyn Kelly attacked a Philadelphia mayor for not being anti-Islamic enough after a Muslim claimed he was "following Allah" when he shot a police officer.
Kelly began with a montage of clips from Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark and Mayor Jim Kenney dismissing the role of Islam in the shooting. Clark said the suspect “has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of Islam. … According to him, he believed that the police defend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran.”
Kenney said, “In no way shape or form does anyone in this room believe that Islam or the teaching of Islam has anything to do with what you’ve seen on that screen. …This is a criminal with a stolen gun who tried to kill one of our officers. It has nothing do to with being a Muslim or following the Islamic faith.”
“Straight news anchor” Kelly sighed hammily and rolled her eyes, just in case anyone might miss her anti-Islamic, anti-Democratic and anti-Obama opinions.
KELLY: Breaking tonight: disagreement between the Philly Police Commissioner and the mayor and new questions about the Obama Administration’s response to the latest terror attack on American soil.
The Kelly File reached out to the White House tonight and was told they have quote, no comment on the attack. Nothing so far.
Kelly’s voice dripped with disdain as she mentioned the White House. Because in Kelly’s world, Obama should just rush out and comment on a criminal Muslim who claimed to be acting in the name of Islam.
Apparently, Kelly considered the situation dire. Or she wanted to make sure her viewers did.
KELLY: The man claims it was done in the name of Islam, yet shortly after the attack, about 90 minutes after the police officials in Philly said it was in the name of Islam, the president’s chief spokesman said he knew nothing about it.
We saw a clip of White House spokesman Josh Earnest explaining that, because of the “tight turn around,” nobody had briefed him on the situation. But, he also said, “As usually is the case, there are other people at the White House who are aware of this.”
Kelly teamed up with Fox News’ Charles Krauthammer to blow the “Obama-too-sympathetic-to-Islam” dog whistle.
“OK, word did not get out to Josh Earnest within the 90 minutes between the time that they talked about it and the time that he came to the podium. But now it’s late in the evening,” Kelly said accusingly. We don’t know how late it actually was because the segment was not done live (there was no “live” stamp on the screen).
“And the White House has yet to issue any statement on the attempted murder of a police officer by a man who pledges allegiance to ISIS, follows Allah and says that is the reason he was called upon to do this,” Kelly further accused.
Krauthammer knew his cue.
KRAUTHAMMER: With any other administration, we’d be astonished. But with this administration, we’re not. Because they simply refuse and it’s not just becoming ridiculous, it’s becoming tiresome.
This was a jihadi attack, a terror attack within the United States and you get no statement from the White House about this? It’s because they don’t want to say what everybody understands what the nature of this was.
Kelly also made sure to note that the Islamic-defending mayor of Philadelphia is a Democrat. “It was the Mayor, the Democrat Mayor there, Jim Kenney!” She said, almost breathless with hate-filled excitement. “And let’s play it for the audience!”
So she played the clip of Kenney again saying that the shooting had nothing to do with Islam. Afterward, Kelly complained, “Except according to the actual, attempted murderer.”
“It’s good to know that the mayor of that city is a Quranic scholar,” Krauthammer snarked.
“They’re so focused on protecting Islam and its reputation,” Kelly sneered.
But while Kelly purported to be acting in the name of public safety, she was really acting to politicize a horrible attack on a police officer in order to promote Fox’s political agenda.
