Ted Turner’s Tea Party son, Teddy, got some friendly Fox News face time to talk about why he loves Dr. Ben Carson.
It turns out Teddy Turner, whom Fox host Neil Cavuto called “a pragmatic individual,” is a former congressional candidate who is hosting a Ben Carson fundraiser next week.
“I’m a big social moderate, big fiscal conservative,” Turner said. He further described himself as “very much a conservative. …Some people called me Tea Party.”
Apparently, that has not driven a wedge between himself and his father, whom Teddy described as “a bit liberal, but it depends on the subject really.” Teddy Turner said father Ted “always tended to come to my side and understand where I was coming from.”
“He’s a great conversationalist,” Teddy continued. “I’ve learned so much sitting at his table for many years, and he’s a brilliant, brilliant man. That doesn’t make us agree on everything.”
Then, after acknowledging that his dad founded rival network CNN, Teddy Turner got to talking up Carson. “I love Ben Carson because he’s not a politician,” Turner said. “He’s like sitting with your grandfather and taking about common sense things the way they should be. That, I love about him.”
Cavuto said he likes the “doctor part” of Carson but that the job of president would require a “different talent set.”
“We have no talent set in there now,” Turner said. He acknowledged that running for “the biggest office in the world” as your first campaign, “You’re going to make mistakes. You don’t know the political machine.” But, he added, “That is endearing to me.”
“Don’t you have to know the machine to master the machine?” Cavuto asked.
No, said Turner. “The machine’s broken.”
Cavuto asked who Turner’s father is supporting for president.
“Unfortunately, Hillary Clinton,” Turner answered.
“Not Bernie Sanders?” Cavuto asked.
“I don’t even think Dad can vote for a Socialist,” Turner replied.
Cavuto laughed.
