Eric Deggans, of the Tampa Bay Times, appeared on C-Span2's Book TV to discuss his new book that looks at how the media deliberately divides and panders to prejudices for the sake of ratings. Fox News gets special attention with anecdotes about segments News Hounds readers will recognize: Bill O'Reilly's visit to Sylvia's restaurant in Harlem, the New Black Panthers on Election Day and more. Plus, Deggans talks about being targeted and attacked as a "race baiter" by O'Reilly and then meeting him.
Deggans also has some very interesting comments about Jon Stewart, reality TV shows and Al Sharpton. Highly recommended for all News Hounds readers.
Sadly, the clip is not embeddable, at least not yet. But you can watch it here.

I wish it were embeddable, too, AAP, and not sure why C-Span doesn’t do it.
In any event, I figured I’d listen to a few minutes of Deggans and go back to whatever it was I was doing but I was riveted for the entire talk.

Some thoughtful comments about how media has deliberately become racially divisive - from an African American journalist who was once targeted by Bill O'Reilly.
