Kirsten Powers was absolutely magnificent discussing gun control on Fox News Sunday today - and a picture perfect example for spineless Democrats - one of whom, former Senator Evan Bayh, was sitting at the table with her. First, she forcefully argued that assault weapons make mass casualties more likely, then she noted that police departments agree with her and when host Chris Wallace tried to argue that Democrats are not doing much on behalf of gun control, she shot back that the NRA and similar organizations "own the Republicans and the Democrats cower in fear.” Even worse for gun-rights advocate Liz Cheney, her fellow conservative, Bill Kristol agreed with Powers.
I'll try to get the video of the entire discussion showing Bayh's timid response that went before Powers had a chance to speak. But the bemused expression on his face and lack of comment on Powers' remarks speaks to exactly the kind of cowardice she referenced.
As I wrote not long ago in another example of Powers speaking truth to power (no pun intended): I've had my criticisms of Powers... But I've got to say this about her: she's got the courage of her convictions and the guts to stand up for them. There are a lot of other Fox News Democrats who could stand to learn from her.
Let's hope some of them were watching today.
Kirsten Powers On Fox News: 'Democrats Cower In Fear' To The Power Of The NRA
The panel on Fox News Sunday today discussed the issue of gun control, and if it would be an effective response to the movie theater shooting in Colorado two days ago. Liz Cheney argued in favor of the individual's right to bear arms and against gun bans, while Kirsten Powers noted that the Democrats dropped the ball on this issue because of the power and influence of the NRA.
Not even touching that Murdoch disagrees, this is more time than the other networks have put into planned discussions- note that I said planned, I’m well aware that some hosts had guests try to bring it up.
And unlike their narratives of whether or not it’s appropriate, or weighing the arguments of both sides, FNC’s stance is “Our side or else!”.
I think their braver Dems and moderates are starting to get sick enough of it to say so.
