Leave it to Dr. Keith Ablow. In an op-ed column published today, Fox’s favorite Politicized Psychiatrist used the capture of bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev to not only make a pitch for gun rights, but imply that the bombings should motivate everyone in the Boston area to grow a backbone, drop that liberal political correctitude, and go buy a firearm forthwith.
Ablow noted that during the manhunt that culminated in Tsarnaev’s arrest, public safety officials admonished people in Watertown to stay inside, lock their doors and answer only for uniformed police officers. Why, he asked, didn’t the police advise people to keep their guns loaded and within reach? Because, he replied, of the “liberal political tide that seeks to take guns out to sea with it.”
By omitting that message, he wrote, authorities suggested that “all residents of Massachusetts were defenseless and should act that way,” and conveyed a subconscious message to Bostonians that they “cannot or should not take steps to protect their own lives and their loved ones and their homes…by exercising their Second Amendment rights to own firearms and to use them when gravely threatened or attacked.” (Really? Is Ablow is implying that the police weren’t competent to do their job? What if some overzealous defender of liberty had killed Tsarnaev when the police wanted him taken alive?)
Then as if that weren’t enough, he went on to say, “It strains the imagination to wonder why any adult in Watertown, Massachusetts who does not currently own a gun and who lived through the horror of a terrorist hiding out in that city would not be applying for a firearms permit this coming week.” (REALLY???? Does that mean everyone who does not want to own a gun is a wimp who buys into the liberal-perpetuated myth that they’re defenseless? Last I heard, the Second Amendment gives us a right to bear arms; some Foxheads sure make it sound like an obligation.)
At least Ablow didn’t say that if anyone at the finish line had had a gun the bombing would never have taken place. Maybe his political fervor is still tempered with a smidgen of sanity.
“Boston Bombers didn’t have permits”
Permits to do what? Blow up a marathon? Kill cops? Drop bombs down a freeway?
Like John Stewart said replying a senator trying this point: Criminals are gonna steal, kill and blow shit up, but we still have laws against it. You know, so we don’t just let him go if we take the asshole alive.
And who knows who that person next to you could be? See video below (a video that I saw MSNBC air during the gun debate but that I never saw on Fox “news” – never mind their “we report, you decide”). Potential terrorists should send a thank you note to the NRA, FOX “news” and every person I the Senate who didn’t support the legislation.
Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn: “America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms. You can go down to a gun show at the local convention center and come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check, and most likely without having to show an identification card. So what are you waiting for?”

There were thousands upon thousands of armed officers and troops around this small area, this terrorist was not going to leave his hiding place for any reason on earth. And if he did, he would have been arrested or shot before he could get close to entering any house in the area. So the risk of him coming for your house was extremely small to begin with and to go all guns blazing when there was little or no risk just seems foolish.
The Boston Police Department and the citizens of Boston deserve a standing ovation for the example that they showed the entire world. It showed how communities can come and work together as others do with tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes.
They got out of the way and allowed the professionals to do their jobs. I know with the right the word government is evil, but we are the government, and if we stay and work together, it does work as it did here.
