Karl Rove's Terrible 2012 Election

Posted by Ellen -394pc on November 08, 2012 · Flag

Craig Ungar has an excellent article in Salon.com that explains why the second biggest loser Tuesday night was political mastermind and moneymaker Karl Rove. In short, Rove poured $400 million into the election and has little to show for it. Republicans lost the presidency and failed to gain the Senate.

Interestingly, Ungar partly attributes Rove's woes to his dual role as both News Corp. pundit and behind-the-scenes GOP boss. Ungar explains:

Throughout the entire campaign, on the surface, he played the lofty pundit pontificating for Fox and the Wall Street Journal as if he had no role whatsoever in the campaign. But whenever one looked closely beneath the surface, one found the Mark of Rove. Under the radar, via his surrogates in the Romney campaign, Boss Rove orchestrated massive, multi-million dollar political ad campaigns that inundated the swing states with countless ads funded by his SuperPACs and “dark money” groups. He drummed up narratives portraying Obama as a latter day failed, weak, Jimmy Carter, and reawakening paranoid fantasies that suggested America still lived in the aftermath of 9/11, cringing in fear of the terrorist threat. In more than 30 states there were attempts at voter suppression—Jim Crow 2.0– in one form or another, a strategy Rove had begun to employ by 2004. In Ohio, Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted, who had worked on Rove’s Ohio campaign in ’04, did everything he could to limit early voting. Nathan Sproul, a former Rove operative,  launched nationwide schemes to disenfranchise Democrats, but was investigated by authorities for electoral  misconduct and voter registration fraud. And various electronic voting machine companies were suspected of positioning themselves to rig the vote.

But in the end it was all for naught. Vigilant Democrats, often helped by the courts, had rebuffed him. Astoundingly, no one was cowering in fear of Boss Rove.

What went wrong? For Rove, just about everything. Throughout the entire campaign, the bitter division between the GOP establishment—Rove and his cronies—and the Tea Partiers severely limited his power. Rove’s inability to oust Missouri senatorial candidate Todd “illegitimate rape” Akin played a key role in allowing the Democrats to retain control of the Senate. Mitt Romney’s attempts to straddle the two wings of the party reduced him to an etch-a-sketch candidate who did not have a clearly defined narrative. GOP efforts at voter suppression failed to subdue the growing Hispanic vote for the Democrats—a demographic time bomb that will only worsen for Republicans. And ultimately for Rove, running the party by remote control, playing pundit while he secretly pulled the strings, had its limits.

Now, another article in Salon explains how Rove is in the crosshairs of angry conservatives who feel he has some 'splaining to do.

It's not clear at this point where Rove will land in the inevitable party shakeup that is sure to follow such big losses. But another big question is where Fox News will fall, too. Rove is clearly a Fox man and, as the network showed Tuesday night when it immediately humored Rove's freak out over the network calling Ohio for Obama, Fox returns the love. But in the end, Fox went with its own call and Rove accepted the loss.

Being Bush’s Brain for so long has clearly taken its toll.

Now, the lovely Mr. Rove can take his 5% earnings from the gazillions donated to his genius plans and unparallelled political mastermind and — one can only hope — become as obscure as the former president for whom he did the thinkin’.

Rove should have quit after the Bush re-election in 2004. He was lucky to win that race. But his ego thinks he can manipulate election results because he believes all that “architect” nonsense. He’s just about finished as a key player in any elections.

@patrick tolle Hmmmmmmm, if Sheldon Adelson’s casino friends DO take Rove for a ride in the Nevada desert, that will initiate the MOTHER of all “crap” games!

;^)

From Visitor 55’s comment:

“By the way, I think it’s a shame that the same corrupt millionaires/billionaires who invested hundreds of millions of dollars to try to destroy President Obama yet failed, are the very same corrupt millionaires/billionaires who whine and shit their panties about having to pay a couple of millions more in taxes. "

That’s because they were all raised on the late “Queen of Mean” Leona Helmsley’s ideology:

“WE DON’T PAY TAXES — ONLY THE LITTLE PEOPLE PAY TAXES”

’Nuff said.

Turdblossom is shitting his panties because his corrupt millionaire/billionaire Crossroads investors only got a 1% return on their investments and they’re a little upset because the idiot promised them that he could deliver. LOL! He failed miserably and now he’s got to pay. And turdblossom is so desperate that he’s trying to change the definition of voter suppression. According to turdblossom, suppression is telling the truth about your opponent in order to get people to open their eyes and vote for their own self-interests.

By the way, I think it’s a shame that the same corrupt millionaires/billionaires who invested hundreds of millions of dollars to try to destroy President Obama yet failed, are the very same corrupt millionaires/billionaires who whine and shit their panties about having to pay a couple of millions more in taxes. These corrupt millionaires/billionaires are downright stupid.

- The foxies keep on claiming that Obama/Biden out-spent Romney/Ryan -

Fox itself is Rupert Murdoch’s 24/7 contribution to the GOP. It’s campaigning that runs 365 days per year, nothing more & nothing less. Rupert’s budget for Fox is his super-PAC donation for the GOP, not to mention the old fool himself couldn’t keep his mouth shut with his Nov. 3 tweet at Christie.

The foxies keep on claiming that Obama/Biden out-spent Romney/Ryan but even their own screen shot showed that R/R spent 25-30% more without counting the money spent by those supposedly independent SuperPACs. Seems that the share of money from smaller doners has been a whole lot larger for O/B than for R/R.

That old saying about money not being all-powerful was borne out this time and I’m delighted beyond words. Now the real work starts, however.

I ran across another interesting bit of news:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-11-08/asian-voters-send-a-message-to-republicans.html

For a little perspective, consider the votes of another minority — Asians. Romney won among all voters making more than $100,000 a year by a margin of 54-44. Asian-Americans happen to be the highest-earning group in the U.S., out-earning whites, and they generally place enormous emphasis on family. A perfect fit for Republicans, no?

No. Asians voted for Obama by 73-26; they were more Democratic than Hispanics.

Those darned Asian pimps and welfare queens!
They voted to get free stuff from the gubbimint!

I’m going to mirror ez that he blew 400 million rather than billion. But that’s some serious money in any case.

When the numbers were pointed out to me last night, Rove’s complete meltdown began making more sense. If we take the politics and the presidential personalities out of it for a second, you’re left with a situation where a group of businessmen hired a guy to accomplish a task and gave him a very large amount of money to do the job. At the end of the day, they effectively rolled snake eyes, which means he very much has some splainin’ to do. These are not people who have a sense of humor about losing that much money and then losing the election to boot, and particularly not after he told them he could do this.

Rove has learned nothing of course, just as Ailes, Rupert and the entire Fux Nuze Screamers have learned nothing. They are selected for certain psychopathic traits that go far beyond simple xenophobia. As long as Daddy Psychopath Murdoch is willing to foot the bill Fux will be here. As to Rove, I’m sure many GOPOpers will be happy to reduce him in stature. Maybe Kkkarl will finally open the closet door …

One more thing about those ads, the local ones seemed to be broadcast most during sports events. Really stupid idea in the Chicago area. We hate political ads mucking up our Bears and Bulls and Cubs and Sox.

sorry about the double post…no idea of how I did that.

Rove forgot about the Law Of Unintended Consequences. Those hit job ads actually had the effect of getting more voters to the polls and voting Democratic, especially in local races. Those ones on Duckworth seemed to inspire some people to go out there and vote for her. And backing Deadbeat Dad Joe was pretty stupid anyway.

400 billion? I believe it was actually more along the lines of 400 million.

400 billion is most likely what his ‘clients’ hoped to gain if Rove had been effective.
