If we really wanted to get these FoxNoise anchors’ heads to explode, ask them why they and their network support groups that pose a threat to the very existence of our national symbol by trying to overturn environmental proposals and laws (like the Clean Air Act).
Our “treasured” national symbol was, less than 50 years ago, declared an “endangered animal” due in part to excessive hunting but more to DDT poisoning and a loss of suitable habitat. And it’s only been in the last 2 decades that the bird has been moved to a classification of “least concern” (by the International Union for Conservation of Nature). But that could change VERY easily if the “pro-business” policies supported by the GOP and its media propaganda arm at FoxNoise became official policy. Just keep spewing pollution into the air and into rivers and lakes, keep building residences and businesses in wilderness areas the eagles need, keep letting timber companies cut down old growth forests and keep letting mining companies dig up the ground; the bald eagle could wind up an extinct species in just a couple of decades.
Or, is it that these morons don’t really care about the actual animal?

So, what’s the reaction been from these people so intent on “keeping America safe” in regards to US airports threatening to kick out the TSA because of the “inconvenience” to passengers?
I hate to say it, but I’d almost love to have some serious incident happen involving the airlines and airports dumping the TSA. I just wonder who the public would blame? (Oh, don’t worry—FoxNoise will blame Obama for the airports and airlines actions. I’m more curious about who NORMAL people will blame.)

Maybe Tuck-tuck should stop using words he doesn’t understand—like “science.”
If he actually understood anything about “science,” he’d know that “science” has documented some interesting cases where people have unusual chromosomal patterns (for his benefit, that’s “sciencey” talk) so that they don’t have the standard XX or XY patterns which determine sex and gender.
You can have cases of XXY or XYY or XXXY—all of which cause unusual development in terms of genitalia. (And those are just a handful of possibilities.)
In the past, whenever a baby was born with indeterminate genitalia, parents were advised to have “corrective” surgery which often turned out to be problematic when those children hit puberty. You’d have “little girls” suddenly sporting odd facial hair growth but not developing breasts or having any “monthly visitor” while a number of “little boys” would sprout breasts and “bleed from their crotches.” NOW, however—in fact, beginning in the 90s—doctors would advise parents to leave the genitalia alone and let the child develop naturally.
While the above is one explanation for transgender individuals, the other is a little harder to, well, put on display since it involves in utero development. Because fetal development is very tied into the mother’s health (and you’d think anti-abortion folks like Tuck-tuck would understand this—though it tends to show more about their real agenda), what a woman consumes during pregnancy to say nothing of the kinds of stresses that affect her hormonal levels and the ensuing effects on fetal development can cause some “crossed wires” in not only mental development but also physical development. If there are enough “crossed wires,” it can lead to a brain that registers one gender in a body that shows the other gender.
But, the real fun thing about “science” is that it’s constantly investigating why things happen the way they do—even when those things may be “fully” understood. (For instance, we understand how tornadoes form but we still can’t explain how they work the way they do, like why some tornadoes steamroll a path on the ground for miles at a time but some seem to prefer playing hopscotch, hitting a house here then bouncing back into the air only to come down a football field away and repeating.)

@ Bemused: Under Federal law, as long as an “expat” vote is POSTMARKED by the date of an election (regardless of the specific election), it’s supposed to be counted regardless of when it arrives at the appropriate elections office.
That said—well, written—that’s one reason why ANY absentee ballot is recommended to be postmarked and sent ASAP to allow it time to arrive at the election office before Election Day.
As to specifics on “expats,” their votes are more dependent on their status as CITIZENS. Some “expats” have given up their US citizenship so if they’ve cast a ballot dated prior to giving up said citizenship, it will count (basically, it’s really a matter of how quickly the office where their voter registration had been actually processes the form or forms to remove them from the rolls).
That stuff about “only counting if close” is a bit of a misunderstanding. People might think it because those particular voters are a pretty insignificant part of the total vote. An estimate of active-duty military personnel serving overseas (not just those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan but also those stationed in South Korea and Japan and Germany, etc) is only about 150,000. And the State Dept estimates perhaps up to 6 million non-military personnel live overseas. However, all those votes are split up among the states they consider to be their residence for voting purposes (states with smaller populations or less positive economies might be a bit more likely to have more overseas residents but they’re still going be somewhat proportionate to the overall population). Also, these numbers may include underage dependents (especially for military personnel in countries like Germany or Japan) so, obviously, that would drop the numbers a bit more. There’s also no hard numbers of voter participation by overseas voters (again—their numbers are counted in with their home states so all overseas residents might vote at a higher rate than stateside residents or a lower rate or even the same rate but there’s no real way to determine).
Now, military voters DO get a special dispensation on their absentee ballots. Non-military voters MUST have their ballots witnessed before mailing them in—if these ballots aren’t properly witnessed, they may be rejected completely (it tends to be a matter of STATE election laws). Military voters, however, don’t need this witnessing (even though they should have the least difficulty in getting a legal, reputable witness). It’s this “special treatment” that so bugs me when right-wingers claim that military ballots are more likely to be tampered with. And, as noted above, a member of the military is far more likely to postmark his ballot the day OF the election and it not get to the elections office for 2 weeks afterwards, and it WILL still count (whereas, say a missionary isn’t able to get his postmarked until the day of the election and it arrives just 2 or 3 days afterwards and his might not be accepted).
Oh—one last thing. It should be noted that while people living in US territories like Puerto Rico and Guam and the Virgin Islands can vote in the Presidential primaries and caucuses, they can NOT vote for the Presidential candidates in November. If someone from Alabama (just an example) is in Puerto Rico on business and needs to cast an absentee ballot, his ballot, postmarked in PR, WILL count; but come Election Day in November, a native of San Juan will not be going to the polls to elect a President. (The only “non-state” that cast ballots for President is the District of Columbia. No resident of any other “territory” has ever been able to vote for President.)

Now, go back under your bridge. I doubt you have any more legal insight in this case than O’Reilly or Napolitano (just because the latter was a judge doesn’t mean he won’t put his political views above the actual law).

O’Reilly should realize that tRump will NEVER consider any VP candidate who might take a second of the spotlight away from him.
While “Martinez as VP” won’t be as “revolutionary” for the GOP as the “Palin as VP” was, Martinez won’t be allowed to have any interview where the script hasn’t been vetted by tRump’s handlers in full—just to ensure that Martinez won’t say something that might make her look brighter than tRump or get her some front-page coverage (especially in larger type than might go to tRump).
Nope. tRump is going to go out of his way to find some absolutely nondescript GOPer with absolutely no hint of charisma, much less controversy, so as to ensure the spotlight remains entirely on tRump. Even more, when tRump makes the announcement at the convention, the VP candidate will still be playing second-fiddle to tRump. (tRump’s introductory speech will feature a lot of “I/me/my”—such as, “I think ____ will be a great addition to my administration and will work to ensure my campaign to make America great again is successful; as my VP, ____ will work closely with me etc,” and be at least 10 times longer than the VP candidate will have to speak—with many, MANY references to how great tRump is and how honored he is that tRump picked him in that limited time.)

If anything, Hillary’s penchant for hot sauce should raise concerns that she’s a zombie.*
And it’s really funny that Clarke continues attacking the Democratic Party since it’s that affiliation which keeps getting him elected as sheriff. Seriously—go check his Wiki page.
Under the heading “Party Affiliation”:
Clarke has been elected three times to the Sheriff’s office as a Democrat, despite not belonging to any party. This has spurred criticism from the local Democratic Party.[
Clarke explains his choice to run as a Democrat thusly on his website:
“Like me, most people question why the Office of Sheriff is a partisan election. I have never asked a person to vote for me because I run as a Democrat. I ask them to vote for me based on my 35-year commitment to keeping citizens safe. Most voters get it when it comes to public safety. There is no Democrat or Republican way to be a sheriff. The enemy is not the opposing party; the enemy is the criminal.”
*In case people don’t get that part of the comment, it’s a reference to the TV series, “iZombie” (based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred). In the context of the series, zombies—as long as they have constant access to brains—can maintain a relatively normal human existence. However, they have a deficiency when it comes to taste—their “flavor” receptors are largely dead; they can taste texture and the like but flavor, aside from spicy, is pretty absent. (Most every episode features Liv—the “title character”—preparing a brain as part of a recipe. And fixed with hot sauce. Lots and lots of hot sauce.)

So, are these morons admitting to everyone that they pray only ONE day a year?
Maybe they’d be better off putting into practice what Jesus said on the subject of prayer:
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 18:9-14, KJV)
It also brings to mind a wonderful speech given by Julia Sugarbaker (portrayed by the late Dixie Carter*) in the “Designing Women” episode, “The Candidate”:
“Because I’ve got news for you, Mr. Brickett………..all liberals are not kooks, anymore than all conservatives are fascists!! and the last time I checked, God was neither a Democratic nor a Republican! And just for your information, yes I am a liberal, but I am also a Christian. And I get down on my knees and pray everyday-- on my own turf - on my own time. One of the things that I pray for, Mr. Brickett, is that people with power will get good sense, and that people with good sense will get power………and that the rest of us will be blessed with the patience and the strength to survive the people like you in the meantime!!”
*Dixie Carter, while portraying one of the most firebrand liberals in TV history, was, in real life, a conservative (but, by today’s standards, she’d be a moderate).

What the NC law overlooks is that there are a lot of transmen who will now be forced to use the women’s bathroom with those “little girls.”
Of course, most transmen sport beards and tend to wear men’s clothing so those “little girls” are going to be a hell of a lot more confused by “men with beards” using the same bathrooms they do while a number of “women in heels and dresses” are being forced to use the bathrooms their big brothers and dads have to use.
(On an aside, does anyone know what the “age limit” is for using the opposite-gender bathroom? After all, a lot of single fathers may have to take their young daughters into the men’s room and a lot of single mothers may have to take their young sons into the ladies’ room. So, will these parents be arrested for “breaking the law” or did the [idiot] legislators take this into account before passing the law?)

Eyes, I don’t think the “rules of live TV” have anything to do with it. Truly live unscripted shows (such as cable news programs)) can get away with certain spontaneous spur-of-the-moment comments without problems (rebroadcasts, of course, would be edited to delete any offensive wordings); of course, they’re also allowed a certain leeway on terminology anyway.
Once “South Park” got away with the “s-word”* (referring to excrement, in a non-biological sense), other cable network programming—live-action and animation—have peppered their dialogue with the word so much, it’s actually a bit shocking (especially when Carlin’s other infamous “dirty words” are still routinely bleeped or “worked around”—especially the “f-word”).
*The episode “It Hits the Fan,” first aired in 2001. (I did a search to remind myself of the episode title and was actually surprised it’s been that long ago. I know shows like the animated “Archer” and live-action “American Horror Story” and “The Americans” have dropped the “s-word” in the scripts, usually the same way that most people do in real life—just occasionally, in certain situations—but almost never let the “f-word” out in any form or fashion.)
