"Finally, someone is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq war!" Stewart quipped.
Whatever you think of Brian Williams and how much censure he deserves for his tall tale(s), Jon Stewart drove straight into the heart of what's wrong with our cable news in this segment. He did it by comparing the media's relentless scrutiny over some relatively harmless fibbing after it gave a pass to the far more consequential lies of the George W. Bush administration.
Stewart said about the Williams flap:
Now this may seem like overkill but for me, no. Because I am happy. Finally, someone is being held to account for misleading America about the Iraq war! Finally! Now, it might not necessarily be the first person you'd want held accountable on that list. But never again will Brian Williams mislead this great nation about being shot at in a war we probably wouldn't have ended up in if the media had applied this level of scrutiny to the actual ****ing war.
Stewart did not single out Fox News in this segment. But it's not because Fox's coverage didn't deserve the scrutiny. It's because the rest of the media has been just as bad.
