On the day that Sen. Lindsey Graham made it clear he’s running for president, Sen. John McCain made it clear he’s backing his pal.
McCain spent nearly 15 minutes on Your World today discussing ISIS, Iraq, the Republican presidential candidates, and more.
Host Neil Cavuto asked about some of the Republican candidates now saying the Iraq war was a mistake or waffling and whether that “sends just the wrong message to ISIS?”
McCain said you have to be “clear and concise” about Iraq.
Cavuto asked “Who is the clearest to you?”
McCain answered without hesitation: “Lindsey Graham.”
“He’s your guy?” Cavuto asked.
“Oh yeah,” McCain said. Then he launched into his de facto endorsement of Graham:
McCAIN: He’s the most experienced by far, and he’s the one that called the shots when we needed the surge. He went with me, we went on a “no surrender” tour. We were on the Armed Services Committee when Petraeus and Crocker came before the committee and swayed the Senate with their argument for the surge.
He’s the one who spent his active duty every Fourth of July and every Christmas either in Baghdad or Kabul. He brings unique credentials to the table.
Show me where Lindsey Graham and I were wrong, and then we will have our - legitimately, our credentials questioned. And I believe that Lindsey Graham has that experience and knowledge, and we have not been wrong.
Cavuto asked McCain if he’d back “any one” of the Republican candidates, “even Rand Paul?
Yes, he would. McCain said, “I believe in the Republican Party’s process to pick the best qualified nominee and I would support him.”
It would have been interesting if Cavuto asked McCain how much he would campaign for Graham.
