Mike Huckabee And Abby Johnson Smear Planned Parenthood With Anti-Choice Talking Points

When Fox Opinion News has a conservative Republican position which it seeks to convey, it frequently reinforces the message by covering the topic on more than one show. The conservative, right wing is anti-choice; so, as the go to network for the conservative, right wing, Fox Opinion News provides warm comfort to anybody with an anti-choice message – particularly if that message can serve to denigrate Planned Parenthood which is figuratively and literally in the “cross hairs” of the religious right. So it wasn’t surprising that Abby Johnson, equipped with a shiny, new halo as a result of abandoning her pro-choice and Planned Parenthood positions, would be featured on two Fox opinion shows. I reported on Bill O’Reilly’s non confrontational (she’s doing “the Lord’s work”) interview with Abby Johnson – an interview which, in not really asking the hardball questions, provided affirmation and validation for the abortion/Planned Parenthood meme of the religious right. But he wasn’t the only pulpit from which Johnson could preach her anti-choice gospel. Last Saturday (November 7th), anti choice Fox TV host and candidate for the 2012 presidential race, Mike Huckabee, gave Abby his pastoral blessing and in so doing reinforced his political pro life bona fides for his audience – or is it his constituency?

Mike Huckabee’s Flag Fetish

Here’s a quick quiz for you: Which of the definitions below best matches the intended role and function of the American flag?

(1) something that stands for or suggests something else by reason of relationship, association, or convention; a visible sign of something invisible.
(2 an object having cultural significance and the capacity to excite or objectify a response.
(3) a material object which should be considered sacred in its own right
(4) an object worthy of devotion, intense reverence, and ritualistic veneration

(1) and (2) describe a symbol, and if you chose one of these definitions you are correct. (3) and (4) describe a fetish, and if you chose one of these, you’re Mike Huckabee. With video.
Updated with second video.

Fox News' Mike Huckabee Does Robo Calls For Virginia Voters

Ralph Reed, Jack Abramoff pal, founded the "Faith and Freedom Coalition" which is mobilizing Virginia Christians to vote in the Virginia election. As part of that effort, they enlisted Fox News show host and commentator, Mike Huckabee, to record a robo call which was made to nearly 700,000 Virginia voters last Saturday. While not specifically mentioning the GOP candidates, the "values" and "life" code language was front and center: "Hello, this is Mike Huckabee and I'm calling to urge you to go to the polls Tuesday and vote for the candidates who reflect your values. Virginia, and America, are at a crossroads. The future of our nation is at stake, and on the issue of taxes and spending, the sanctity of life, and marriage, there are very clear choices. Be an informed and educated voter and be sure and vote your values this Tuesday. Thank You. Paid for by the Virginia Faith and Freedom Coalition." Somehow, I don't think Olbermann and Maddow are doing robocalls; but ya never know...!
