Fox News Throws A Pity Party For Sarah Palin, The Martyr Of The Arizona Massacre

On Martin Luther King Day (1/17/11), of all days, Fox News threw a pity party for Sarah Palin with Sean Hannity as the emcee. Rather than “man up,” take responsibility for or even just apologize to anyone offended by her at-best tasteless, insensitive “blood libel” comment or the inflammatory rhetoric about the now gravely wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Palin and Hannity doubled down on her victimhood – Palin even invoked Dr. King – and barely got around to mentioning any of the killed or wounded in the Arizona massacre. Palin and Hannity may have thought that by continually pointing fingers at the left they were helping to revitalize the Palin brand. But I’ll bet they did more harm than good.

Bill O’Reilly Wants “Very, Very Stringent Investigation” Into Sheriff Dupnik’s Responsibility For Tucson Massacre

Bill O’Reilly kicked up a notch his witch hunt against Pima County, Arizona Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. O’Reilly is no longer content to just vilify and demonize Dupnik for having the nerve to suggest that right-wing, inflammatory rhetoric played a part in the Tucson massacre last weekend. Now O’Reilly is suggesting Dupnik bears at least some responsibility for the massacre and is demanding “a very, very stringent investigation by the attorney general of Arizona.” In a sign of Fox News memes to come, guest Lou Dobbs threw in his two cents that Dupnik’s comments were used to cover up his own culpability.

O’Reilly’s Audaciously Hypocritical Stand On Sheriff Dupnik’s “Politicization” Of Arizona Shooting

Fox News is on a witch hunt against Tucson Sheriff Clarence Dupnik for having the gall to speak out against right-wing rhetoric and suggest that it played a role in the Arizona shooting massacre. The righties on Fox pretend that their pique is over Dupnik’s “politicization” of the massacre. I suspect that in reality they couldn’t be happier. Pointing the finger at Dupnik allows them to avoid looking at that same right-wing rhetoric and – as what I’m sure can be seen as Fox News bonus points – it gives them an excuse and cover to engage in Fox News Activity #1: attacking the left.

Instead Of Trying To Calm The Political Discourse, Bill O’Reilly Doubles Down On Inflammatory Rhetoric Against The Left

Dear Bill O’Reilly,
Tonight’s show could have been a shining moment for you in which you, acting as a voice of reason, called for a ceasefire of overheated rhetoric and explored avenues in which our country can pursue vigorous debates without stooping to demonization. Instead, you doubled down on the flame throwing in a deliberate effort to ratchet up tensions and hostilities against the left.
